Just curious why you kept (or used) the fluorescent lighting. in general, I like the mid-century mood that is set here, but the fluorescent-style lighting... not so sure.

2 reasons for using the linear fluorescent lighting: First, building codes in my jurisdiction require 50% (now 75%) of all newly installed lighting to use high efficiency light bulbs. Second, given the budget, this was a way of providing more than adequate lighting with a modern flavor while sticking to the budget. The fixtures are not quite as industrial as they appear in this picture -- they are actually quite sleek. Modern fluorescent bulbs can be specified in a range of colors from ones that are almost indistinguishable from incandescent to full-spectrum, daylight bulbs. They turn on instantly without any flicker or noise. You can change the look dramatically by simply switching out bulbs. There is no reason today not to use fluorescent technology and I am increasingly specifiying it. Sorry this application doesn't suit your tastes.

much too traditional for this kitchen - in my opinion.
