Countertop issues

Hiyas - I will meet with the first of several stone fabricators tomorrow. I spoke with one today and he threw a bunch of terms at me which made me realize I know nothing at all about this. He noted that:

(1) - the glue used to laminate slabs matters

(2) - he planed on using rods because the stone I want, rainforest green, is fragile because of its veining, this strengthens it

- ....I can't remember what all else.

Please, can you-all fill me in on what issues are at stake in selecting a fabricator and listening to their plans for your counters?

I do remember that:

(3) - the kind of edging matters.

and I think the way they join the seams at the edges does, but I don't know the names of that...

(4) - butt vs mitred joints perhaps????

I'd appreciate anyone setting me straight on the issues to consider in fabricating countertops please.

Also, BTW, I had vaguely mentioned a possible interest in runnels cut, though I'm not wedded to them by any means. He thought it was not a good idea with this stone because it is soft - does that sound right? I'm leaning against the decision mostly because it just strikes me as a good way to get grunge build-up that needs yet more cleaning; I'm not sure I'd actually ever dry anything on the runnels. I'll probably use a rack (I know: declass). Still, happy to gather opinions fore and aft.

Many thanks....

Also, if this has all been covered in gorey detail a thousand times, I apologize and would be ever so appreciative of a link, I just don't really know what to search for. Thanks!
