Outdoor shower

We installed a pool this summer and now I'm working on the outdoor shower area. My husband thinks folks will want to actually shower there and change clothes while I think it will just be used to rinse off between playing horseshoes and getting in the pool. No children around here, our sons are grown.

How is your outdoor shower used?

I'm putting ours in a garden setting with stepping stones through pea gravel and tropical plantings. I'm trying to decide whether to include privacy panels/screen or not.

Thanks

Cameron

We use our outdoor shower ALL the time. My extended family that lives next door actually comes over just to shower. It's great for rinsing after the beach or the pool, but I love it at night, too. We made it big enough to pile in several kids at a time, if needed. If I can keep everyone outside, the inside baths don't have to be cleaned nearly as much! :-) Obviously, we're doing the tropical thing, too...

Ours is very simple and modeled after a shower we saw in the islands. It runs up a palm tree and has a long bar that extends out from the tree with a large rain head on it with a pull chain to turn it on. It gets used but not all that often. I would say at this point its more a novelty then anything else. The kids love grabbing the chain and pulling on it when one of their unsuspecting friends are under it.

I think if you live within walking distance of the beach, we don't, its a must have.

We are going to install a outdoor shower for after pool and beach usage. Here are a few cool photos I found that we might copy.

Wow, Last Mango, what a cool shower!! Does anyone have a fixture they would recommend? We will have hot and cold water and would like a foot wash and a hose bib. I've found a few online, but they are about $800.

Last mango....ditto on the cool shower and fence....love the pineapple too. What is the rest of the fence like?

ummm...we have neighborhood covenants. I can't install a fence that doesn't meet the covenants. No beach nearby. I will have to do something more vanilla if we use walls/panels/fence.

From what I can tell, her shower area and pineapple looks like it is out of view from anyone. One would hope the covenants committee wouldnt come after someone for a fun outdoor shower located behind their privacy fence....but I guess you never know.

It sounds like privacy is a good thing as people are "drawn" to use outdoor showers. I want to do something playful, yet discrete enough to not incur the wrath of my neighbors. I will have to get really creative for privacy since our screened porch is above the shower area. As is the 2nd floor of our house. Sounds like I need a roof! I am an avid gardener, so I think I can do an arbor with a friendly vine to create the overhead privacy.

About covenants...you are so fortunate to not have them. The HOA already called a special meeting about our pool once this summer. We had a pool on our original construction plan, but the ARB chairman in charge at the time moved away and wouldn't give anyone his files. So, our neighbors thought we were installing a pool without permission. And, a neighbor was sure her well went dry because she thought we filled our pool with our well water. No, we paid two tanker trucks to fill our pool. Oh, you wouldn't believe what happens if a neighbor sees something that doesn't fit the covenants! And we live on 4.5 acres! Aargh! Anyway, I digress...

    Thanks for the input!

Ha. I just had to write that my husband was standing in the shower tonight and saw a rocket go off. Way cool. He called us all out and we got to see it trail off into the distance. You can't do that in an inside shower!

I found the photos on the Coastal Living website. Really beautiful inspirational ideas.

    Thanks!
