I would love to see more pics of your kitchen. Especially the front of the island that faces the window. What size is your island? I like the microwave on the side like that.

Lovely lovely kitchen. I have never seen pics before the microwave thread.

Thanks so much!

I would love to see more as well! I too saw your pic on the microwave thread and my jaw dropped! I have been searching for a solution for my range wall that separates my k*itchen and dining room. But, I wanted to be able to have light showing through as my dining room gets tons of natural light. Your solution is PERFECT!! I would love to see what it looks like from the dining room (or what I am assuming is your dining room) side!!

    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Jen,

My island's overall dimensions are 66"x52". The drawers on the left are "dummies", because of the microwave cubby and drawer beneath it around the corner. I love the working drawers--the ones in the center are wide and deep and perfect for oversized items. I use the top center for placemats and top right is my flatware drawer.

    myonlysunshine,

We went around and around, trying to find a way to connect our breakfast area and yet still have a wall for the range and this is what we came up with. We love it!! I pass meals through as I am plating them and my kids pass dirty dishes at the end of the meal. Not to mention the extra light--there are three tall windows in there that I really wanted to benefit from.

Here are a few more pics:

and from the other side (sorta)

Myonlysunshine, here is a photo of the breakfast area. I hope these help!

    Shanghaimom:

Your kitchen is gorgeous! Really really beautiful! Love the pass-through and the island and all the design details. You did a really nice job--thanks for sharing :)

Thanks so much...I could not have planned it without this forum!

Absolutely love it! Your cabinets look beautifully made, and your light fixtures are to-die-for.... Spill all your kitchen details, please!

I absolutely LOVE that!!! That is such a brilliant solution! I have been clipping pictures with anything even close to what I had in mind...but you have completely nailed it!

Are the cabinets on either side working cabinets or are they partial dummies to cover beams??

Thanks so much for the additional pics and explanation!!

    Sunshine,
My vent hood duct does take some space in the upper center cabinet. All the others are "working." The cabinet to the left of the range (with the black phone on the back) is actually an appliance garage, with the toaster oven and toaster inside. Those needed to be very accessible because of daily use, and I didn't want to use any of my precious little counter space.

I'm so glad if this helps give you an idea of what to do!

    Hi Shanghaimom

I've been researching the phone and was wondering if yours is the Crosley 302? If not, do you recall the make? And how has it been working for you? I've read mixed reviews on the Crosley, but I really love the look of it.

Thanks and I think your kitchen is spectacular!

Yes it is the Crosley. You wouldn't want it to be your main phone--the sound quality isn't 100% (but neither are cordless) and what I really want is a REAL old black wall phone from ebay. There are a few businesses that refurbish them and the old ones feel so much heavier and nicer. Unfortunately, though, they are always sold out of black! The other thing that disappointed me is it is a matte finish, not shiny. I really want shiny black. (o: HTH

more, more, more! If your beautiful kitchen/nook are any indication, I'm dying to see the rest of your home!

absolutely gorgeous!! Love your sense of design. Would love to see the rest of your house as well!
What range do you have? it is a beauty!

Thanks so much--the range is a Bertazzoni--a brand I found out about on GW. I love it and it was reasonably priced.

Shanghaimom - Love your kitchen! Would you please tell me the brand of your pendant lights and where you got them? Thanks so much.

Wow - love it! Really wonderful details.

I am curious about the range hood (what brand is it). And the pulls on the cabinets are antique brass? I would like to antique brass pulls on white cabinets, but since the frige will be stainless I am afraid it won't work. Maybe I am just over thinking it?

Just gorgeous. Really, really stunning. I saw on another thread that your pendants are from Bellacor. Do you recall the brand? I'd love to consider them for my own kitchen. Thank you so much.

Wendy and jama123, the pendant lights are Hinckley Knickerbocker mini pendants. They have been discontinued but you may have luck finding them on Ebay or clearanced somewhere. I can't remember exactly what I paid for them but they were very reasonable...maybe only about $125(?) Almost all the big lighting companies seem to carry Hinckley so they may very well still be out there in someone's inventory.

Remodel-mama, the hood is about the most basic one I could find. It is a Vent-A-Hood. It is 300 CFM, but they say for whatever reason the sucking power is equal to 450 CFM which is what I needed. It is very quiet and has an almost-invisible logo. The pulls are antique brass. I would absolutely, positively combine finishes! My range, hood, sink, dishwasher and micro are all stainless, and all of my lighting and hardware is brass. (Except the faucet, which is polished nickel.) It works together just fine. The brass touches add a lot of warmth, IMO.

Here are the pulls: (Amerock Revitalize in Burnished Bronze)

Just checked and the Hinckley pendants are all over the place for $50-$80 !! Example--Lampsusa.com for $53.00. In case you are wondering, they ARE beautifully made of heavy solid brass. I guess I should have waited...sheesh! Snap them up!!! (o:

Your kitchen is truly incredible! Did you ever have a major reveal here on GW? If so, I missed it. I only stumbled across your kitchen because I finally decided to open this thread. (Had I not done so, I might have missed it completely). And, OMG -- what I saw made my jaw drop! I LOVE your kitchen! Even though my layout is nothing like yours, I can relate it to in so many ways from a design standpoint. I'm especially blown away by your organization and pass through. Clever and chic all in one. Also loving the breakfast nook and island. Really, really nice work all around. You've got to be loving it. Congratulations!

Thank you so much for the information on the pendants. What a steal!

Once again, your kitchen is just gorgeous.

Shanghaimom - thanks for sharing the details on the hood and pulls!

Thanks, guys. Marthavila, I have always thought your screen name was great--it suits me, too! (Or suits my aspirations.) I do intend to post some finished pics. My life was put on hold for the past five months caring for (hospice) a sick relative in my home. I now have some time to get back on my computer and respond to a few posts here and there, and it has been so much fun. I never thought I'd be nervous to do a finished kitchen post, but I am!! I have been an avid, daily lurker for about two years, never wanting to miss a valuable tidbit.... (o:

LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR KITCHEN! I'm in the middle of creamy white inset cabnets /white carrera marble countertop and backsplash kitchen. I had considered doing golden/brass colored hardware - love the look - jury still out. I'm currently stuck on hardwood flooring. CAN YOU TELL ME about your hardwoods. Are they site finished? If so, what color and brand stain?

Shanghaimom, for me my "screen name" is meant to be a joke (or aspiration) of sorts. On you, it's clearly the shoe that fits! :-)
