Only on CL

Can one find that perfect coffee table. I love how the ad states "Lights at night for elegant look." Yes, elegant was the word I was searching for.

Perhaps "Taxidermy's Dream" coffee table would have been a better name...LOL.

Oh, goodness. Stuffed animals even. It reminds me that last year I had some workmen in my home to give me an estimate, and one of them looked at my (large) goldfish and told me that he also does taxidermy and lots of fish mounts.

Because, what I might want is to mount one of my goldfish? Eeek.

But I bet he'd love that table!

    Gahhhhhhh...

I've got no words for that one. Well, maybe "tragic."

Hey, I have been struggling with where I want my body to end up when I die. In my will, I think I'll request to be stuffed and placed in a rectangular glass coffee table - with lights - so that my DH can rest his feet on the table at night and have conversations with me, as I glare up at him from below. LOL

I'm relieved that it's one of a kind!

Naturalized setting - ? I'd have to laugh, were it not so darn sad. :-(

I can only imagine how little children would be terrified of the "night glow." Blech.

LOL! newhomebuilder--DH wants to be stuffed like an attacking bear.

Creepy coffee table! When I think elegance, I think dead stuffed animals. Doesn't everyone?

The first words out of my mouth after seeing it was OH, My Goodness. I grew up in the south and have to say I've seen a lot of stuffed animals but nothing like that. That's just plain scary.

there are no words to describe this.........

    Pottery Barn 2011 Spring catalog....

    Kath
you heard it here first ;)

    I think I just threw up a little ........

That's just revolting on so many levels!

Wow!! Do you suppose I am too late???!!!
Someone needs to send that one into Jay for his "sold or not sold" segment.

That is just wrong on so many levels. :-)

I wouldn't accept an offer to have dinner there.. you might get a bit of road kill .. ugh!

    Oh, so many wonderful possibilities!
In October, perhaps an artfully jumbled arrangement of bones and skulls?
In December, an inflatable plastic yard snowman, put in empty and blown up to fill the thing, with the face crammed against the side, as if trying to escape?
For spring, how about a lovely rusted lawn mower body on a bed of decomposing grass clippings, dotted with the little furry gifts the cat brings in?
And in summer, I think a generous pile of wet, sandy bathing suits and beach towels would be nice.

This posting reminded me of the following. Does anyone else see a bear in the last photo?

LOL! Yep - kind of a doofy-faced cartoon bear?

Good! Thought it was just me. :) I am surprised that no one has snapped that tree up!

The coffee table is down right sad.
    NewHomeBuilder is down right funny
and the tree is down right strange.

    Yep, only on CL.

bronwynsmom you made me spit out my drink at the blowup snowman squished up against the glass...

They want $800 for it, too! So I was thinking...could someone pay you $800, or even $8000, to have this in your living room?

I swear, I'm going to start a blog like Cake Wrecks featuring all these HIDEOUS CL listings. Unbelievable!

I'm assuming these animals were not road kill, but unless they were found dead in the wild, they were murdered for display under glass. That just sickens me. What's the point? At least the people who kill deer and display the head as a trophy almost always eat the meat (and being vegetarian, that doesn't appeal to me but most people do eat animals) - but this? This is just disgusting and wrong. Not to mention hideous on a purely aesthetic level.

Bronwynsmom you are a hoot! There actually is a blog that shows bad CL listings. I sent this one in for their consideration.

Hey ... it's only $400. I hope nobody beats me to it, seeing as how it's such a bargain.

I don't think it's revolting, I think it's funny. After all, who's accounting for "taste". Once I stayed in Al Unser's OSO (??) lodge in, hmm, New Mexico? Great place, stuffed to the gills w/ dead heads. No my style of decorating, but it was interesting... if not a tad bit unpolitically correct.

Anyway, My favorite CL listing, kid you not, "Slightly Used" Ladies panties. Now who is going to buy those? That, I'd rather not know....

The Victorians went crazy for this type of thing. An antique store nearby that sub specializes in Victorian oddities (photographic portraits of dead people, for example) used to have a snake and mongoose entwined in mortal combat under a big glass cloche.

Our sensibilities are quite different than the nineteenth century.

I know a taxidermist, so I've sent his wife this link and told her that she should do something like this for father's day. :)

I don't know is this thread has taken over for the previous "Bad CL Listings" thread that we had going on, but I thought I would submit the following.

I was interested in buying these bedside tables for my daughter who has a sleigh bed. Being non-smokers, I quickly decided against these, even though I think they are a bargain.

Here is a link that might be useful: Why can't people clean up before taking photos?

newhomebuilder, I couldn't agree more about the cleaning up before taking photos. Really, what are they thinking? Did you notice the smoker people posted two photos of the same nightstand?

I don't know...the Victorians and Edwardians would have LOVED that coffee table. They were all about collecting specimens and taxidermy...

graywings - LOL No, I had not noticed. I just zeroed in on that ashtray. I know good and well that the furniture has to smell like smoke. My daughter has asthma, so those tables (if there is another) would not work for her.
