Wondering about cabinet/trim paint?

I have to tell you.

I just finished 4 days of priming and painting my kitchen cabinets.

After reading and reading, I picked up some STIX primer for melamine, and oil-based primer for the wood. I bought Cabinet Coat, which was able to be tinted my cabinet color. They only do lighter colors.

I sanded & primed Thursday night.

Friday, a very light sanding, and the primer felt so silky! I primed again. Same thing.

Saturday night (I have no life) everything got the 1st coat of paint. That Cabinet Coat absolutely flowed onto the primed surfaces. Unbelievably smooth.

Last night, with almost no sanding whatsoever, I spent my evening, 4:30 pm to 1:00 am, giving everything what should be their last coat.

Cabinet Coat is said to dry extremely hard, which is one of its benefits for cabines & trim. When I actually have trim, I'm getting Cabinet Coat. It is such a beautiful finish!

If you have any doubts or are vascillating between one brand or another, I'm here to tell you to pay the money. This is fabulous stuff. It's worth it all the way.

Now I just have to make the rest of the doors.

Before you ask, when I've hung the doors I have made, I'll take some pictures.

I have been using CC too and really like it as well. The BM products are worth the difference based on my experiences. I rarely spring for name brands when I don't have to, so for me to spend the extra, I have to be very convinced (which I am). Their Aura paint is awesome, especially for the darker colors. There is a huge difference in quality.
FWIW I went with Zinsser 123 for latex primer on the ceilings (didn't use Aura for those) and that was also very good. With the Aura, I did not prime anything and only used 2 coats, even with the darkest color purple (Purple Rain).
I will never go back to cheap paint again. You get what you pay for in this instance.

My husband was a GC & found painting to be theraputic.
He swore Kilz was absolutely the best on drywall, stains or not. So I've always gone Kilz there. I had also used it for wood before, not knowing any better.

Now, I'm ed-u-ma-kated and will use the proper stuff. It's amazing how well things turn out when you do!

I haven't used the Aura. I'm probably going to be a SW girl because I get substantial discounts there. I haven't explored their colors much, but I'm starting to.

I agree with you completely. There are some things in life that are absolutely worth their cost. I keep walking in the kitchen admiring the drawers that are standing up on the floor curing. :) LOVE it!
