LOOKING for: Fried Biscuits and recommendations for a Deep Fryer

Hello!

This is my first time here in the cooking forum. I am looking for instructions on how to deep fry biscuits so that they are light and crispy. I have the recipe for the dough. I am inviting someone to dinner who loves fried biscuits and I would like to offer them with (get out the cholesterol pills) fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

Also, I am looking for a deep fat fryer. Does anyone have a suggestion? Has anyone tried a fryer that has a charcoal odor filter? If you have, does it really work? I will be frying the biscuits right before dinner and I don't want the house to smell like McDonalds.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Jane

I've never had fried biscuits but I bet I'd like them. I'd think the only way they'd be heavy, if your recipe is a good one, would be if the oil isn't hot enough. If it's not hot enough, the dough would probably absorb too much oil.

Can't help with a deep fryer. The last one I had was a Fry Daddy 20+ years ago.

Hi Jane, I don't know anything about fried biscuits but I have experience with a deep fryer. My T-Fal just died after minimal use so I'm not recommending that. It did have a filter and did decrease the odor but did not eliminate it entirely.

I'm also looking for a new one but haven't found one I like.

Hi Jane, I'm also looking for ideas about a deep fryer. I only have a few things I like to fry, breaded tenderloin, calamari, shrimp tempora, but I want to do it outside because I hate the mess in the house. I hope someone here has some good suggestions. Maybe you could also post on the cooking forum?

Thanks for the responses. Since I wrote my post, I have found a recommendation for a fryer. I subscibe to Cooks magazine and have all of the back issues except the charter edition..of course that is the one that tested the fryers! But, in a later issue it made reference to the winner. That was the DeLonghi Roto-Fryer D20. The charter issue was prior to 1993 so there is probably another DeLongi model that might work as well if not better. I have checked it out on epinions.com and the DeLonghi as been rated almost a 5 star by quite a few people. So....I guess I am going to try and find one online as cheap as possible.
When I finally get one, I am going to try frying some canned biscuits just to see how they might work. Properly fried, biscuits really are heart stopping if they are not drenched in grease or uncooked in the middle. I think there is a fine line in the temperature of the oil, etc. I will let you know.

In the meantime, if anyone comes across more info, please pass it on. Thanks!

Oh, here's something funny. I called my next-door-neighbor to see if by chance they had deep fryer. They just threw 2 in the trash 3 days before....grrr..... Typical timing on my part!

If you go to Amazon, it will give you products with ratings, from users. I have not had one in years, but use my electric wok when I need to fry something.

If you get a can of bisquits, poke a hole in the middle and fry till golden, then dip in sugar and cinnamon, oh my oh my, its the best!!!!
