external blower range hoods

New user to the forum and in the final stages of a kitchen addition to my home. We'll have a 36" gas range top and I'm trying to pick a 42" range hood. I want a commercial style, stainless, 18" high unit. What I can't decide is whether its worth the effort to install an external blower. Has anyone switched from an internal to an external blower in the same kitchen and seen a big difference in noise and/or performance?

Also wonder if anyone has good or bad experience they want to share with Vent-a-hood?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

We have a 42" Viking hood, 1200cfm external blower. It works great! It has a great capture area. We went with the 1200 due to the btus and the recommendation from Capital Range.

It is so easy to clean the filters too, just pop them in the dishwasher. For some reason it makes me happy to see them greasy--I know it's working.

(And during these last few days where our temps have been in the upper 80's and 90's, we open some windows and turn that baby on high--it's like a whole house fan for the first floor!)
