DIY toe kick drawer article

There is an excellent article in the May issue of The Family Handyman about toe kick drawers. They give very detailed information for pretty easy, high quality, inexpensive ($100 for 3 24" drawers) drawers. They give measurement directions that make it easy to build to whatever your opening is. It is a self-enclosed unit, so no critters can get in from beneath!

I wanted to post this while the magazine is still available at stores. I can't wait to do mine!

And can they be fitted to existing cabinets (already installed ones?)? I'm looking for a storage solution for my new baking stone....

Jeeeze! My local supermarket doesn't carry the magazine. Do you think they're at Lowe's or HD?

Sorry, I was out all day.

Yes, the directions are for existing cabinets. It would be even easier to do with cabinets that are not installed yet. This magazine is usually very thorough in their directions and they don't disappoint with this project. They give pretty complete directions for how to remove the toe kick from installed cabinets.

They address the merits of full-extension v. 3/4 extension drawer slides, making the 'cradle' (box enclosing the drawer itself) for the drawer first for a more precise fit, using hardwood plywood for strength, limiting width of the drawer to 30" to avoid binding by the drawer and other details that I found to be impressive.

There are seven color photos of the steps and two color illustrations. There are also precise measurement directions.

After all the talk on here about toe kick drawers I was really excited to have found this article!

Barnes and Noble, Borders and news agency type stores should have this magazine on hand.
