...bringing vintage elements into your home will give your farmhouse alot more character and are far more cost-effective than all-new out of a box or catalog.

Love schoolhouse and have contemplated some of their designs - also have Steve Handelman in my pile of catalogs (to die for!) ... both different looks and both appropriate. I would love to use vintage pieces but the time frame doesn't allow for that. Love your house! You might take a look at Circa Lighting, not cheap but good quality and style. You might look at the Large Country Industrial Pendant which retails for $840 to $883 in a variety of finishes. This could be lovely in the kitchen, they have some school house fixtures and Thomas O'Brien's collection has a great updated traditional look. Good Luck, I hope you show us your progress!

ADORE Circa - that's where I started the search... have seen so many beautiful fixtures from them in magazines. They offer a 10% trade discount too. May splurge on a piece for the family/great room. I really like Barn Light Electric, they are my go to for these type of fixtures when I am working on a project with a tight budget. They have some great looks.

Also when I was working on my own personal house I had a tight lighting budget too. Nevertheless, I went ahead spent the bulk of my budget on the main focal features (i.e. the pendants over the island and the light in the entry way). All of the other lights I just plugged in some inexpensive fixtures at the time, and over time I am switching them out with fixtures I originally wanted to plug in when my budget wouldn't allow. Something to think about!

Over the course of 30 years buying and specifying light fixtures I've always had great luck with Rejuvenation ( http://www.rejuvenation.com). Also, where are you located. If you're near Chicago you can go to New Metal Crafts. Lot's of older fixtures that have been restored and rewired.

I like www.rejuvenation.com and even www.lampsplus.com has some lights in country/cottage style among others.

I would look on Ebay. There are always quite a few vintage schoolhouse fixtures on there, as well as lots and lots of other vintage fixtures. I checked - there are several nice ones on there right now, most going for WELL under $100.

overstock.com has good deals on lighting. It is really hit and miss but sometimes you can find jawdropping deals.
