Get some plywood and hang in there. But I'm guessing this is keeping you from having a functional sink? Did you have laminate previously and do you still have the old sink and faucet in your demo pile? If so, I would just cut that puppy down and semi-install it on the new sink base for the time being.

Or you could hit a Habitat store or similar in search of a cast off sink and faucet and drop it into some plywood for the interim.

We went to Ikea in PA a couple weeks ago to order Numerar BB for our island, they told us they will more than likely NEVER get it in again. They are having issues with their supplier. She said she has checked stores up and down the east coast over the past few weeks and it does not look good. We are looking for alternates now and are probably going with John Boos. Good luck!

Holy guacamole Redwood15! That, unfortunately, is not what I wanted to hear, but you are probably right. Every time I call I get a different answer about when they will be back in stock again.

Jakabedy, We actually kept our old hunk of laminate and sink until we got our counters. I will get the plywood. I just want everything to be finished and this process to be complete and I can't do bs until I do counters. It's just frustrating, but I also know it's nothing over people haven't dealt with before.

You might want to consider yourself lucky. I have used many Ikea products and most have worked well. I used gray Numerar counters on a desk and the metal effect edge is cheap foil which soon looked ratty and peeled off. The laminate is one of the thinnest I have seen, though it has had held up, not sure in a kitchen application. Except for lack edge banding, it does look good.

Oh no! And oh no that they probably won't get it back in stock! I'm so sorry! Could you try John Boos? I'm sure it'll be more money. How about a local lumber (not hardware) store? Someone or two here said they had a local lumber store order in the wood she wanted and put it together for her. Apparently, it was on the cheaper end of wood counters. Is there a local wood worker or cabinet maker you could ask about building one?

We put the Ikea on the baking center, then ended up buying John Boos for the island. If I had to do it again, I'd skip the Ikea and go with the John Boos.

We bought the Ikea with the idea it would be a temporary countertop - and then decided we could do the soapstone so used it on the baking center (which was not even in the plan at the time we bought the Ikea countertop). Now that I've seen the two together, I would not consider Ikea unless that was all the budget could handle.

I do have it in my sewing room and laundry room, and think it makes a great utility work space. Maybe what I bought was symptamatic of "issues" they were having with the supplier.

Sorry about your holdup. Do you have a lumber liquidators nearby? There are a ton of other alternative suppliers; but all way more $$ then IKEA. John Boos or Grothouse are FABULOUS... but will probably cost (and I'm guessing) about 5x more then IKEA.

We are having the same problem. They have been out of stock since Jan. So frustrating. My husband has decided to just build our countertop himself.

Uh Oh. The Numerar BB was my plan B that, because of budget constraints, was looking more like a plan A. I better check Atlanta tomorrow.

I would contact a local woodworker if you can and ask him/her to build the countertops. We are doing solid wood 1 1/2 inches thick, 16" wide by 13 ft. long for our raised counter and it will run us anywhere between $150-$250 depending on the wood we go with.

NOOOOOOoooooooooo! I can't believe it! For ages I've been planning to use the IKEA bb on my perimeter, butler's pantry, and laundry counters. And now that the kitchen's finally about ready to begin, it's gone?

Has them. More expensive than Ikea I think, but cheeper than Boos, etc.

I don't know for certain, but the Lagan countertop (which is thinner) might still be available. There are some stores that report it as most likely available. The good news is that it's cheaper... the bad news is that it's thinner. If we have to go this route, we might, and just maybe build up some trim around the edge ... or something.

I should have mentioned that we were interested in the two largest slabs of Numerar Countertop, and that is what the salesperson told us will never be available again. But it sounds like the other products are also unavailable.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Ikea BB products are designed in Sweden, and made in China or another developing country. I live in the US and believe in buying US products when I can. Most of the BB alternatives are Made in the USA so it makes me feel good even though I'm spending quite a bit more.

Regarding Lumber Liquidators' countertop:

I recall a poster here who bought a "solid wood" countertop from Lumber Liquidators, and made a cutout to install the sink and discovered that the "solid wood" was a layer of maple over a core of low quality oak with voids.

Ikea opened a factory in Virginia. Not sure what is made there though and not everyone is happy about it apparently.

Not sure about other woods, but our Ikea Numerar in beech was made in....Poland! (???) I don't know that the other woods are necessarily made there, though---their cabinet doors come from a wide range of places (some U.S., some not) and I was really surprised (in a good way) to find that the plastic storage tubs in their garage line that we bought were made in the USA, except the lids, which were made in China. So it's not always logical---go figure. (All-Clad does that with their pots, too, which has always bugged me---if you're making the major part of the product in the U.S., why not go a little further and just make the whole thing here??)

Just found 2 Numerar butcher blocks (still in boxes) if anyone is looking near the Los Angeles/Orange County area. Although, I may try to snatch them up myself...
