Trash to Treasure

After my mom's death in May, I've spent my summer cleaning out my papers, boxes, closets, etc. (Mom left us so much stuff to go through and throw away I didn't want to leave my junk for my son.) I suggested to my SitNSew group they bring something from their craft/sewing room they didn't want. We put our stuff out on the tables and every one shopped. It was lots of fun! I came home with craft books while someone else ended up with my big bags of yarn and craft stuffing. One year at our quilting retreat a lady (professional quilter) brought huge trash bags full of scrap fabric. What fun we had!!

That sounds like a whole lot of fun! But it doesn't really reduce your "stuff", does it? LOL

My guild used to do an auction once a year...people brought in quilty stuff they didn't want any more, and people bid on stuff. It was a fundraiser for the guild. The last year we did it someone brought in a treadle machine in the cabinet and it went for $15! I almost bid on it, then thought DH would have a fit at more furniture in the house. I told him about it afterwards and he scolded me for not getting it! Men.

Well, at least my load was lighten. LOL! What a find for a treadle. I have two and would certainly not let them go for $15.

Our guild just had a big sale of all the stuff we all threw out. We made lots of money. It was advertised and opened up to outsiders and lots of friends came. I'm sure there was fabric left over but lots of bargains to be had and all going to the treasury. I always look for a tool or ruler I don't already have. I don't need more fabric or books.
