Enlarge window?

Hi all,

I posted this on the kitchen forum but perhaps the post is better suited in this area.

We began remodelling our kitchen in late September, and before our cabinets were installed in December, I started thinking about enlarging the window. However, one contractor said it wasn't worth the hassle and money and that I should wait to see how the cabs look first. The window company said they didn't think 12" taller would be worth it either. Now that the cabs are in, I am still wondering whether I should go ahead and have this done. Any ideas?

It is 36" x 36", and the area above is 26" high. I figured at least 12" high would give a better look amongst my ceiling height cabinets. Ceilings are 9'.

Here is a picture also of the window from outside, and inside. We have a window sill that is 17" deep.
