First you are going to have to remove the recessed can. Then you are going to have to mount a junction box in the hole left by the recessed can flush to the drywall. Move the wires that were in the recessed fixture to the new box. Then repair the ceiling around the junction box. Mount the new ceiling light to the junction box.
