Personally, I'm not a fan of that look, but I do like to see them repurposed. I appreciate the workmanship in them.

Yup. I have them in my kitchen cabinet. and I have 2 in my living room. my house is cottage wanna be. These doilies are quite old, hand made and lovely. ( I think) I don't like the old look of using them under everything tho, like in my greatgrandmothers day. Sue

I don't put them everywhere, but I have several handmade lace doilies, dresser scarves, embroidered table squares (sometimes called traycloths), etc., although they're currently still packed away from the move. They're appropriate for my other belongings and I like them. So there. Nyah. ;-) ;-) ;-)

My friend has a large round rattan coffee table with a glass top and in between she placed an antique round doilie. Looks nice.

My mom has some in her house. I have two that my were my friend's grandma's. They're really old and handmade. Have one on my hutch and one under a glass basket.

I have a few lovely doilies that were made years ago by my great-aunt, and they are very special to me. Indeed, I do display them in my home. One is under a small lamp on the buffet in my breakfast room, another beneath a framed photo on one of the built-in bookshelves in my bedroom, and a third is draped in a basket that sit atop my desk.

Back in the 80s I had tons of 'em ... one on just about every surface. Many were the mass-produced doilies from China. It was quite popular at the time for a certain look, as I recall. I wouldn't do that anymore, but I do treasure those that were lovingly made by hands that used to hold me when I was a baby, so yes, those will remain on display.

I use dresser scarfs, I made from matching fabric of my Br's yes, and also have one doilie in use on glass top coffee table, also cute crocheted ones in blue & multi thread with stand up ruffles in media room on glass top under lamps, that would otherwise scratch glass, and I like them...

I like dresser scarves myself, and if I was really gifted, I'd stitch some smaller pieces together and repurpose them. When I inherited my granny's vast doilie collection, I sold them to a costume designer who was making some huge wedding dresses with them. I kept a couple, but I'm glad to know they went to a good purpose.

I have to say I have never owned a doilie! Although, my older sister has several displayed.

If I had one that had some special memories, I might display them on a table in the LR which is more formal, but years ago, I used to have them on endtables where the finish was a tad damaged.

Honestly, they were sortof a pain to dust around!

I have a number of different kinds of doilies in use. They are mostly handmade however there are a few mass produced ones as well. I like them, they protect my handmade furniture and they represent the kinder gentler lifestyle that we try to live.

I have a small collection of miscellaneous doiles, napkins and runners that were passed to me by my grandmother. Most were handmade by her oldest sister, my great-aunt Julia, who I never met.

I use a few. Have one on my DR table underneath a basket of fruit or decorative teapot, whichever is the centerpiece du jour. One square one on my bedroom dresser, underneath my jewelry box (which is a handpainted cigar box my son made in kindergarten :).

I bring out Julia's linen napkins for holiday dinners, too.

PS My children resolutely refuse to believe these things are almost a hundred years old and handmade. My son INSISTS they are from KMart or Target. Arrghhhh....

Yes. My mom and my Auntie Sylvia spent a lot of time crocheting them, some specifically for me. I don't have either of them anymore but I do have the things they loving made for me throughout the years.

I could care less whether they're stylish or not. They're part of my family.

we use them only when we do afternoon tea - english/indian style with cucumber sandwiches, scones, fruit etc.
