Window replacement

I don't have experience with windows, meaning I don't know the steps involved in replacing one. Part of our remodel is to add a window where there used to be a door, and to replace two others ones. The window material will run $ 500/window, variation due to sizing, and one offer quotes $1600/2100/3600 for each window respectively. That seems a bit steep, whereas the other offer just estimates the cost of the windows, and must have fudged the labor into another position. In essence, I still have no good feel how much the average window replacement would be.

that seems high to me - but I don't know much about windows either or how big/ problems that yours will be...could be the cost goes up because window 2 and 3 are bigger? that'd be more framing etc also. and more physical labor.

how about calling somewhere and getting a quote on JUST the window for each? and the framing around them...

$500 per window is builder's grade components with the contractor's markup. And yes, your contractor deserves his markup for his time in selecting, ordering, and transporting the windows. So even if you get separate quotes for just the windows alone, you will be at least 20-30% low on the materials cost. Plus, there are many many different grades of replacement windows out there and it's difficult for most homeowners to distinguish the actual quality differences in them, so you may not be comparing apples to apples.

What I'm saying is that the second quote is not out of line for top quality materials and labor in an expensive labor market. You didn't tell us the size of the windows, the brand or quality of the windows, or the labor market that you are in. All of that has a significant impact on the dollar amount of the quotes that you will receive.

You don't mention the sizes of the windows. You don't mention the window manufaturer or type of window. You don't mention what sort of exterior wall material you have. You don't mention what floor the windows are being installed. You don't mention where you live.
These will all contribute to a reasonable answer,
