I ended up with the same under my coffee pot counter. I keep spoons in the narrow drawer and the grinder, the beans and a bag of sugar down below. I also have the whiskey and Bailey's under there! ;D

We have a 6" unit (only 4.5 inches inside)...works great for storing paper bags for now until DH finishes the pantry closet. I plan on storing cookie sheets and large trays later there later. You'll have plenty of space for that type of thing.

I'll be using ours to store the wok - just big enough. Mocked up the space with a cardboard box to make sure.

Mine 9" will be for cookie sheets.

Phew! I was so upset over losing the space I had planned on -- Thanks to all for easing my mind over it!

Houseful -- I'm so glad to know where to put my Baileys. After the day we put in today and the stress involved, I think I might have to go double-check the dimensions of that bottle right this minute!

Actually, I have two, one on either side of my island.
one I use for all my different size zip lock bags, plastic wrap, wax paper, foil, etc. I put thin shelves in them according to the height of the boxes. They aren't heavy items so you don't need a heavy duty thick shelf. My shelves are about 1/4 " in thickness & I just used the cabinet shelf pegs to hold them up. It works quite well and I use it daily. The other has shelves too. I keep a recipe box (I have a long skinny one)& misc. small items. Good Luck

Is it a cabinet or one of those pull out, specialty drawers? There are options, right there.

I find my two, 12" 3-drawer base cabinets to be pretty useless. But, I keep large cooking utensils, hot pads, decorative bags like wine bags, and silly stuff like that in them. Just a place to get things off the counter. BTW, I didn't order them. They were a Norcroft mistake on another order. The Kitchen Guy at Direct Buy said they were going to trash them, so guess who interceded at the dumpster? :)

9" would be trays for me.

9" is standard for cookie sheets. Or the rev-a-shelf pull-outs.

But I have a question - if you changed your window, why did the BASE cabinet specs have to change? Just curious - normally windows affect uppers.

My 9" has a pull-put with two shelves and side rails. It is near the stove and prep area: I use it to store all my oils and vinegars. I LOVE it.

Natschultz-The windows had to be spaced further apart than originally planned to allow for electrical boxes. The 9" cabinets go on either end of the counter and visually balance with the windows (no uppers so we can enjoy the beautiful view of the Atlantic). I'm anxiously waiting for the order from Sutherland Welles to arrive (thanks again for your help with that too!)
