What color bed?

Big time lurker and sometime poster here with a question...

My MBR is incomplete. I have the Thomasville Bridges 2.0 dresser, tall chest and night tables in a deep cherry finish (sorry, don't know how to post a picture or link)but am still looking for a bed or headboard. I was initially thinking of something metal(along the lines of the PB Whitney or Savannah Beds), but I'm also drawn to white beds. Would the white and cherry work or look too disjointed? Anyone ever see a white bed and dark cherry furniture? Any pics would be helpful. I do have a wall-mounted jewelry armoire in bright white hanging in the room and all the trimwork is bright white.

Also, I have an antique Lane cedar chest which was my MIL's that I need to refinish. Should I try to match the cherry, go bright white, antique white, black? I'm at a total loss. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

dmoh

dmoh, pictures really help. Do you have a Photobucket album?

I know, I'm a visual person too! I just haven't had the time or energy to set up a Photobucket (recovering from my 4th & final chemo treatment for BC this week and since my cable is on the blink, I just thought I'd throw this question out there.) Sorry. Once I get back from my DS's weekend lax trip -- I won't let chemo get in the way of some things -- I will try to set it up.

    Thanks anyway,

I think woodish Brown is best for Bed.
You also can see the catalog of color in various sites or in any shop.
Hope you will sort your confusion as soon as possible.
    All the best

Dmoh, then just use www.tinypic.com. No account needed. Just browse, upload, and copy the top URL into your post. Voila!

don't abandon the idea of a metal bed as opposed to white white wood ; it's a natural complement to the wood and is not jarring in contrast. Your bedside lamps can be metal also or a combination.

I needed a project to help me wake up this morning. HTH.

I like all three of those beds. If I were buying I would probably go with the Whitney bed because I have always wanted an iron bed, but you can't go wrong with any of those. I would not go with white.

I have the Bridges table from Thomasville (back when it was still made in USA) - they told me it was black cherry - it is kinda classic Americana. I am not seeing it with a white bed.

Thanks, Artlover for posting the above pics!! I love the Whitney bed - I think that would look great with the Bridges collection.

Dmoh, healing thoughts to you as you recover from your chemo :) I sincerely hope all is well with you.

    Smiles:)

I don't think I would like white wood with cherry furniture if that's what you're talking about, but a white upholstered headboard would be pretty.

dmoh, I'm so sorry about your health. My cousin is going through chemo right now too. It really takes it out of you. I'll be praying for you. Take care sweetie. If you can email photos I'd be happy to post them for you. Click on my name to email me, I'll write you back so you can send the pix to me.

WOW! GWers are the BEST!!! Just back from DS's lax tournament in PA -- pouring rain, but what FUN & I'm just happy to be able to be there for him -- and I find all these great posts while I was away! GWers are the BEST!! Oops, I said that already, but it bears repeating!

Artlover -- thanks for the picture posts! You are wonderful to take your time to do this for me. That is my furniture (dresser, tall chest & nightstands), although the finish I have is quite a bit darker/deeper than it appears in the photos.

ScoobyRuby -- I too am feeling the Whitney bed; Savannah might be a little too "curly" for hubby & I think I'm finally over the white. Thanks for the healing wishes (I can use all I can get)...

justgotabme -- Thanks so much for your kind thoughts and prayers! You are so sweet! I will keep your cousin in my prayers as well. You're right, chemo does take a lot out of you. This is my 2nd time dealing with BC and it really kicked my butt this time around. Nine years ago at 32 I seemed to bounce right back. It's true that after 40 everything changes, including your ability to "bounce," but I refuse to let this get me down...I digress....

Finally, I really hate to be a pest, especially since so many of you have been such a help already..., but any thoughts on how to refinish that antique cedar chest I have for the foot of the bed I haven't yet decided on? White seems to be out of the question now, but what about an antique/heirloom white for the chest? I think trying to match the cherry will be too difficult & black might be too dark...Any thoughts?

I vote for the PB Whitney Bed. Your new furniture is beautiful.

Diana, I just stripped and refinished an old cedar chest I found at a yard sale. Took much longer than I thought it would, but the results are gorgeous -- those old chests are 3/4" cedar throughout, and the wood is lovely! I started w/chemical strippers, then hand sanded, and have applied about a bazillion coats of tung oil. A bit of poly goes on next.

THe wood is a rich red-brown, not all that far from the tone of the THomasville set artlover posted above, but you say your set is darker than that? as in, walnut? espresso? how much darker?

I think if you're going to mix in the PB bed (and I agree with everyone so far that the bed w/straight lines looks better with your nice THomasville set than the curly-lined one), a wood-toned chest would look prettier than a white one. Even if the chest doesn't exactly match your dresser set.

Good healing thoughts from here! Distracting yourself with decorating is a great idea, seems to me.
