Flushing fridge into wall

Anybody flushed their fridge into the wall? Im not sure if I need a special fridge like a counter depth with compressor on top or some kind of venting for this application.

thanks

Refrigerators that are designed to be set flush in a wall usually have one or two compressors above the cold box with a grill for air exchange. They are usually designed to be 24" deep so they don't stick out from the counter cabinets and so it is easy to reach things in the back of refrigerator. But they need to be wider to achieve a given volume and are considerably more expensive. Sub Zero is the original and probably still the best.

Building a recess in the wall is another way to achieve this same effect.

As long as you can get a bit of space to let air flow up and around, you can do it with a normal fridge and not just a megathousand dollar fridge.

It can be done with a regular refrigerator but it won't have the perimeter trim overlapping the wall/cabinet face. The difference is obvious. This refrigerator looks like it is in a hole in the cabinetwork and the other looks like it is part of the cabinet work. It all depends on how much you want to disguise the refrigerator and unify the wall design. Some people don't care much and others care a lot.

there wont be any cabinets surrounding it. im planning to bump the kitchen out into an unused portion of the garage and add a nook for the fridge just to get it out of the way and also add a pantry.

anybody got pics of a regular fridge in the wall? just so i can get an idea if this is the direction that i want to go.

For a 33" French door refrigerator typically you must allow at least 1/8" at the sides and an inch at the top and an inch at the back. I usually make the enclosure 33 1/2" wide, 73" high and 34" deep. For the next larger refrigerator the width would be 36 1/2". Some refrigerator are shorter but I plan for the worst case.

Our kitchen backed into a stairway, so we cut a hole in the wall and recessed the fridge.
