Sofa matching chair?? Need help

Do you have a sofa and matching chair? Is that what most people have? A sofa and matching chair then some other type of chair. I ordered my sofa and can't wait until it comes but I need two new chairs. We moved and I got rid of my old family room furniture and redoing. My new sofa will be here in 45 days as a custom fabric. Now I worry I should have bought the matching chair but it was so expensive. The sofa is the slip covered with rolled arms, I got it at the sale at RH. It is their standard sofa that they carry all the time. Then I started thinking, what will I put with it? I have a huge Karistan Rug and a wine colored leather chair that I can use elsewhere if needed but I need two chairs for the sofa room. This is a nice family/living room combo area off the kitchen/dining are. I was a relaxing casual but upscale look. Any suggestions?

I have a sofa, loveseat and three chairs in my living room. They look wonderful together, but none of them match.

Can you post a link to the sofa? Or when it arrives, take a photo of it in your room and post it for us.

I have a butter yellow sofa with slate blue piping, a slate blue chair w/butter yellow piping and my 3rd chair is a dusty salmon color.
I picked up all 3 colors in my drapes with a small floral print and accent pillows.

I prefer my furniture not to match, but complement each other.
I have an orange sofa, brown leather chair, and an eventually-to-be-recovered armchair in a washed-out pink. It has a large scarf thrown over it to disguise the color a bit, but I can't believe how well they meld as they are. Sounds horrid, though.
Here is a pic. You can't see the leather chair in the foreground and I don't have the throw on the chair.

I don't believe in matching, either. We have a brown leather sofa, a burgundy velvet chair, a burgundy/lime upholstered chair, and a lime leather (yes, I know, but I love it) chair. They all work well together but none of them "match."

I have two chairs covered in the same fabric, but they're different styles, and neither match the sofa. I do like the British country house style that uses the same fabric on everything, but that's a lot of chintz and upholstery expense, and I'm not Nancy Lancaster.

The sofa and matching chair look is a little dated, I think. On the other hand, if you can get any extra fabric from your custom order, grab it, as it's so useful for trim or backing on pillows, accessories, etc. I didn't buy the whole bolt when I got my chairs done, and I wish I had.

Sueb20, I'd love to see a picture of your room. I have been longing for a wild lime/acid yellow leather chair. My plan was to put it on a traditional style-- but I never found the right chair/leather color in the same line.

I am relieved to see the responses to this thread as I am struggling with the same right now. I purchased two chairs on clearance (but neither was inexpensive--part of the problem here) and a custom leather sofa. I don't know what I was thinking at the time-- well, I do know. I had zero spare time but I had put off furniture shopping for soooo long. I let the store designer talk me into purchasing two chairs from the floor and then I ordered the sofa in the color I had been searching for-- an earthy/organic green-brown. Long story short--the chair and the sofa are two very different colors of brown. It looks like I tried to match them and didn't.. or worse, it looks like I shopped the clearance floor. Not the look I was shooting for. Some tell me they work well together-- others tell me they don't.

The furniture store is willing to exchange both chairs (the scale of the other chair is just completely wrong--that one will be returned regardless). The problem is the leather chair has been discontinued so I can't get the same chair in the same leather as the sofa. I love the comfort of the chair but am struggling to make it work. I think maybe an upholstered chair would help take the focus away from the two that don't match. In the meantime, I am looking for another chair from the same manufacturer that is just as comfortable... or an additional chair that works with all.

Anyhow.. your posts give me faith that I can make them all work together.

I'm glad to hear you say I can mix them. I do love the matching chair though but it is expensive.
