Your local "Penneysaver," free, weekly paper may also have ads for seamstresses. I hear a lot of people throw those away, and some, quite angry with the waste of paper, demand to be taken off the delivery lists. It's unfortunate, because not every seamstress is going to have a web site...the local paper is one way to get the word out in a cost-conscious manner. Also, your telephone book will have ads in the yellow pages. You may as well google and see if someone in your area does have a web site.

Having clothes made up this way will probably cost as much or more than buying off the rack. There is no economy in buying material and notions and producing one garment at a time. The retail cost of fabric is rather high, and so is the labor of Americans, compared with that of labor overseas. And you may find someone who'll quote a really low price, but get references. I just had a fellow come into my workplace today and ask if I could repair and alteration made by a "professional" seamstress elsewhere, that rendered his leather jacket unwearable. She only charged him $15, and you know what? She did a lousy job. But he didn't want to pay the price to have it done right. He's going to ask his daughter if she can fix it, free.
