My SIL will be in a wedding next month, and her dress is two piece. The skirt is miles too long, and I need to figure out the most fool-proof way to measure it. It's a simple A-line, with a back zipper. But the hem is decorative, and since the waist is a little snug, we agreed that it would be easiest to take it up from the waist.

The bride wants the skirts to brush the floor, so how can I be assured that I cut of exactly the right amount? I thought about measuring from the floor to the waistband with her wearing it, so we know exactly how long it needs to be, then lay it out flat and measure from the bottom.

Is there a better way??
