I do not have nor have ever used the machine you are speaking of. But I have made plenty of bias tape, because like you, I often want a color or print that I can't find. I have made bias tape without any aids, but recently purchased one of the Clover tips and it works well enough for me. I can't justify the approximately $50 for a little machine to do it for me. But if it isn't going to pinch your crafting budget, I say go for it (and let us know what you think of it).

I love my bias tape maker. I have the simplicity one that does both tape and piping. I have used it countless times to match specific fabrics. I work as a professional seamstress and have found that for costuming and elegant wear I use it all the time. It's very simple to use you just pass your fabric strip through the tip over the iron (which you need to remove the top off of first didn't realize that first time and was incredibly frustrated) and then onto the spool. It save a lot of time for me and anything that can save me time, frustration and burnt fingers is worth the money.

I also always make my own bias without a bias tape maker.I remember using one once a long time ago,and to me it didn't seem any faster or better.So I never saw the need to spend money on that,when I could spend it on more fabric.LOL
