I don't usually comment on paint colors because I find it so subjective, but I was curious to look and see what Iron Mountain looked like. I couldn't find an image of a whole exterior painted with it but found this pic. I think it will be a gorgeous color on your home. What is the trim color called?

I love that picture olychick. One of the colours I like for the trim is called vineland, another is jojoba. The jojoba is much more green and the vineland is very grey green.

Your house would look great in BM Nantucket Gray.

I love nantucket grey. Unfortunately, so did our neighbours and their house is painted that colour :-(

I've been looking at mohegan sage and carolina gull for the trim. Thoughts? Running out for sample pots. Will try to post pics.

Your house is so striking it would look good in any color. There, hope that takes some of the pressure off!

I like the Iron Mountain very much. Would look stunning with a any complex gray in a medium to light shade.

Iron Mountain appears to be a fantastic color, but at least on my screen it does seem to be in the same basic color family as your current color. Do you want to stay there in the blues?

I'm having trouble seeing a green with Iron Mountain, but agree that the right gray could be smashing. I am such a fan of white trim, it makes me rather unhelpful on that question. White would also go with your windows, if you want to stay away from painted ladies...pretty as they might be. White would highlight the trim, though. Is Iron Mountain on a swatch with lighter tones on the same swatch?

Looking forward to the pics of last-minute samples - and totally rooting for you. The house looks huge and full of character, you lucky woman.

Thank you so much for the compliments awm and steph. We do love our house. Unfortunately, we've just decided to fire our painters. Or maybe fortunately, since it will give me time to choose colours (although I've had all of July). A bit worried about the legalities because we do have a contract with him, but he's screwed up so much already and hasn't really even started yet. I keep thinking that if I was on this forum reading about someone's painter doing the things he's done, I would tell them to fire his @ss immediately. Ugh. Hopefully, he'll just hang his head in shame and walk away.

daisychain01, sorry you're having this hassle, but yes, it does give you more time to decide on colors.

Did you try the Sherwin Williams site? Their Color Visualizer is useful. They don't have your exact color, so I tried Iron Ore on the walls & Unusual Gray on the trim. The sample results weren't as dark as the Iron Ore paint chip for some reason, so I pasted the picture in MSPaint & repainted it slightly darker than Color Visualizer's sample (crudely too -- I'm not great at this stuff). Below is the result. Just thought it might help with visualizing.

Thanks awm. I will go and try that site. I tried the Ben Moore site, but couldn't figure out how to use it (I'm challenged that way). I like that unusual grey. The grey I'm looking at now for the trim is very light green grey (Creekside) and I'd like something a bit creamier.

I think there is too much blue in the iron mountain, but am really liking the Mohegan Sage and (one darker on the same strip) Green Grove. I think I'd be happy with either. I'll go ask for a creamier trim colour and hopefully we'll be set. There is a blogger who painted her home Mohegan Sage. Totally different kind of house, but it gives an idea of how it would look.

Mohegan sage -- very nice! I like your gray trim idea, though, better than white trim. There are so many great grays.
