Piecing drapery panels.

I posted some time back when I was trying to figure out how to make grommet drapery panels work on a corner window. I have bought the hardware and solved that issue. Now I have another concern.

My finished width is 106". My fabric is 55" wide. I would like to just piece two widths together with a seam in the middle. I have determined where to place the seam between the grommets so that it falls in a fold that is in the back. That way, it won't really be visible. I am wondering if there is any reason this would not be advisable.

The reason I'm asking is that I made roman shades and the directions were very clear that you must always use at least 3 panels to increase the width. It specifically stated not to use two panels together to acheive the cut width. It said that a center seam is weak and may pull apart. Plus you'll have a seam directly in the center of your shade. I understand the second part. It would look funny to have a seam showing in the middle of a flat roman shade. I used a wide panel in the middle with two narrower panels on the side for that, however, I'm not sure if the same rule applies for drapery panels, especially since the seam will not be obvious. I guess it's the strength of the seam that may still be a concern. What do you think?
