My local Walmart had some last I looked, but just a couple colors....black, white and a pink, if I remember correctly. I do remember them having some however, if that helps you.

I purchased a beautiful Hudson's Bay Company wool blanket from eBay a few years ago. To preserve the binding, I bought enough cotton print fabric to make a large "binding" across the top. You will need to measure across the top of your blanket and then add 2". This is the yardage of 45" fabric you will need to buy. You will actually have enough fabric to bind three blankets from this same piece of fabric.

I cut a large rectangle the width of the blanket + 2" by the total depth of the binding + 2". I folded it in half lengthwise and turned each of the four sides under 1". Then I hand stitched over the top of the blanket with a short running stitch. The total depth of my binding before folding is about 12" so the actual finished binding is 5" deep. It is pretty, durable, and keeps my blanket binding from wearing.

By the way, to clean your wool blanket. Wash it in cool water, spin it on gentle, and add one or two Tbsp. mineral oil (not cooking oil) to the final rinse water. Your blanket will come out nice and soft. I always add a touch of clear mineral oil to wool clothing when I wash it, too.

Leftover blanket binding makes great baby toys. For some reason they just love to put it in their mouths! I use old nylons or polyester fill and then make circles with the binding. So nice and washable.
