cabinet spacing

Wondering if this is normal? I didn't even notice this until today when my husband pointed it out. All of our cabinets have a bar in the center, on the inside like in the photo, except one cabinet. So every cabinet has a tiny space between the doors when the doors are shut....except one cabinet. Is that strange? It's a smaller cabinet but still uses two doors. It is the cabinet next to the fridge (far right) I haven't said anything to our cabinet people as we noticed it tonight after they left. If there is a bar in the center of that cabinet it makes it a very small space, but at the same time I want it to look good on the outside. Sorry the main kitchen photo is so big, wanted to give a clear view of the cabinets.

The center bar in the inside of the cabinets is called a center stile. It is used in cabinet sizes 30" widths and up....the cabinet that you have that does not have one maybe either a 24" or 27" width or for some odd reason, the cabinet person or designer ordered the rest of the wall cabinets in "BD" but not these two. In order not to have that stile, you must order the cabinets with "BD" in the nomenclature, meaning butt doors or doors that have about an 1/16" space between, just enough for them to open with out rubbing against each other. This is certainly something that should have been discussed between you and your designer (or cabinet person). As a designer, I always suggest the "BD" cabinets to my clients, gives more interior width inside the cabinet as you are able to put longer items inside the cabinet without having to worry about that center stile dividing the box into two.

But, at this point, your cabinets are already installed and I doubt that you would want to take them down and reorder at this point. And, as you said, they all have that space but one, so it may not look bad at all.

Also, Im not sure of the brand of cabinets that you used, but they may not offer larger width cabinets without the center stile.....some cabinet companies require this piece becuase it provides more structure and "squareness" to a larger, possibly weaker cabinet box. The better constructed cabinet companies offer up to 42" or even 48" width cabinets without the center stile, so changing them may not be an option......

I hope this helps...from the pics it isnt noticeable at all...they actually look nice!

    Good Luck!

cabinets with the bar inbetween are less expensive than "butt" door cabinets, so maybe the salesman was trying to save you money or work within your budget, however IMO he should have explaine dthe advantages of butt door cabinets and asked you if you wanted to pay the upcharge The other explanation is that perhaps the wall cabinet is too wide to have "butt" doors. And again, the less # of cabients you have (by using larger cabients) saves you money too, but again IMO, it should have been explained to you...unless this is a home you just bought and you didn't choose the cabinets...

Your hinges can be adjusted so that there will be no gap. This is a normal procedure when installing cabinets.
Also, the cabinets built w/a center stile typically cost less, just make sure you got what you paid for!
Bottom line is Kitchen looks beautiful!
