Blue Jean Purse Pattern

I have seen the bags made from blue jeans and would like to know how to do this. How do you line them and where do you cut. Do you sew the bottom up before or after you cut. I also wondered if you could leave them just like cut off's, especially children's jeans and fray the legs. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I recently made the pocket purses w/ some of the teens @ our Summer camp program - plus we also used the lower legs of jeans to make some cute small tote bags - we hot-glued a cut-out pocket onto 1 side & used hot glue to hem the top & seal the bottom of the bag too - straps (sturdy ribbon) were sewn &/or riveted on.They were soooo cute.... = )

I bought 1/2 dozen pairs of jeans @ a local church's thrift store for .50/ea., so the project was incredibly inexpensive.

I didn't use a pattern for mine. I just cut the legs off just under the zipper placket before it gets into the crotch and sewed across the bottom and boxed it just like I would a regular totebag. I measured the denim bag to get measurements for the lining. I sewed it in a little below the waist band.

I recently made a couple of denim purses that turned out cute. I got the idea from a fabric catalog photo. I used the jean pockets to make a raw edge with a cute fabric lining sticking out the front. It was fast and turned out nice.

Then using the top of a thrift store denim jumper, I made myself a tote that is big enouth to put my 11 pound dog in. It's hot here in Texas most of the year and not safe to leave a dog in the car even with the windows down. It is lined with a bright print and the jumper top is the handles. I love it. TrudyRose (my dog) is not too sure about it.

What would you use to get them to hold their shape? A lady at work had one that could stand on it's own, and had some sort of cardboard liner in it? Very cute, and professional looking!

I have been making demin purses from old jeans for years. I use the largest mens jeans I can find at thrift stores. But when I make them, I sew the sides together so that the front of the jeans in an inside pocket. Then I sew the bottom. This gives three large pockets inside, along with the front jean pockets inside. Then the back pockets are on the outside, one on each side. Everyone loves them. Lots of storage area inside and outside.
