Beyond Microfiber

So, I'm on the fence with taking the plunge and purchasing new living room furnishings for one seating area in the room (the other already has two adorable club chairs near the fireplace, etc.; notice adjoining dining room is a rusty, brick red color.):

The seating area in question is by the TV section of the room. We built our current home six years ago, and we brought with us a microfiber sofa and loveseat from our previous home. The sofa/loveseat combo is over 10 years old, and while it's awesome for cleaning (two boys and a cat), I'm so ready for a change.

I found a comfy sofa (Better Homes & Garden):

I would like to use this sofa fabric - 100% polyester (IRL, the color is a bit warmer than it shows on my monitor and matches carpet in living room):

And recliner chair:

I like this fabric for the recliner - poly/cotton blend (stripe is nearly identical to golden tan in the club chairs by fireplace):

And decorative accent chair, to be covered in "clucky" chicken fabric (poly/rayon blend), which makes me smile. I have been telling myself, "No more roosters", but they keep showing up in various places!

Here is a pic of the fabric combo:

I would use the red stripe, neutral sofa, and clucky fabric for pillows on the sofa.

My DH is pretty insistent on a swivel recliner - ughh!:

Is it possible to incorporate a recliner somehow without crashing the style? At least this one is fairly petite (as recliners go). We have a dark chocolate leather ottoman, so I hope that more than one leather color can work if they are different/complementary.

Our oldest son is 19 and in college away from home, and our youngest is 12, so we have passed the early childhood years. Our cat is 20 years old, and prefers to sleep in her bed and only spends time on our furniture by proxy (read laps).

But . . . after having this microfiber for so many years and having the ability to wipe everything off of it, I worry that having new furniture will be too hard to care for comparatively.

Still, I've been waiting for some time. I realize my style is less sophisticated than many (i.e. roosters/nod to farmhouse). But, we live in a rural country setting on several wooded acres, and I like french country, casual, traditional, and updated clean country farmhouse, with a mix of antiques, etc.

I have no decorating background, and I constantly doubt my decisions. I guess I'm just looking for encouragement here.

I like the fabric combination and think it works together. There are recliners now that arent big and bulky and don't look like recliners. Here is a link to Lane recliners...just to give you an example. There was a whole thread on here recently about recliners and different brands that people like.

I like your color sense and mix of fabrics. I like rooms to look nicely designed, but I also want them to be comfortable. If you don't plan to submit your house for a magazine shoot and the decorating police don't frequent your neighborhood, I think you should make your husband super happy and provide a recliner for him in the television room.

You can have your fabrics treated with Scotchgard or something similar to help protect them from spills and spots.

Joanie, thanks so much. The first chair I posted is a recliner, but it doesn't swivel. DH wants a swivel recliner. So, the second recliner shown is one he likes, and his recliner would be in addition to the other one I posted. Thanks for the link. I wonder if there are any nice looking swivel recliners out there. I will check out the other thread. Scotchguard is a must.

Fun, I appreciate the support for the DH recliner. The room needs to work for how we live, I know. If DH gets a recliner out of the deal, he will be more agreeable to my ideas too I bet- Ha!

Oooo that looks nice! I wouldn't wait too long if you plan on Paula Deen fabric, seems like anything with her name on it is disappearing in many places.

Hi Jan, I can relate--I doubt my decorating abilities too but I bet we are better than we give ourselves credit for. Your fabric selections are really nice, and if you love roosters then why not.

Your question made me think of a blog posting that I saw where they worked in the leather recliner and it looked great. Maybe seeing the pictures will help you figure out how you will work it in.

Williamsen, thanks. I asked the salesperson about the fabric, and she said most likely they will just remove the Paula Deen branding and continue the fabric line. I am disappointed greatly in Paula Deen's actions, and my taste in this fabric has nothing to do with her.

Trying, it's great to hear from you again! What a great blog post link too. I do want DH to be happy too. Decorate for the way we live, not the way we wish we'd live, right?
