I started to send an email, & decided others might have my question.....would you share, please, how to put in a zipper. I quit trying to sew because of zippers and collars. Sleeves I can do -- the other two are my aarrggggh
points. Thanks for any tips/advise.

Jayokie, I don't know where to start. What kind of zipper are you interested in putting in? If you do an invisible you will need a special foot for your machine. If you go to the Husqvarna website they have really good demos on all sorts of things, including zippers. It's step by step with very good visuals. I think you find the demos under the "sewing room" tab, then under "technics". As for placing the zipper in the right place in the seam, use a glue stick. A little dab of glue will hold the zipper where you want it, then stitch but let the glue dry first! I don't like to pin zippers, as soon as you get to a pin and have to pull it out to stitch you move the zipper out of position. You can also baste first to make sure you like it, then stitch. I really recommend the demos at Husqvarna, they are great and better than anything I have read in books. My problem with zippers is the placement of the very top of it, the rest is easy. Invisible zippers should end at the seam line or just far enough below to permit the addition of a hook and eye to add additional security to the zippered closure.

I use a "kissable" zipper foot when applying them, but I have to tell you, I LOATHE invisible zippers unless they're in a contoured seam. Just my preference.

A dress or skirt I can see for an invisible zipper and a dressier fabric where they do look nice, not for slacks and shorts where I prefer a nylon or metal zipper...yep, they still make them and ideal for sporty items.

I also agree about the hook and eye and use the hook and bar type. A little extra effort provides a whole lot of security later.

You really should use a hook and eye. If your skirt is snug it puts to much pressure on the zipper and it will split. Invisible zippers are great and I use them all the time but, you do need the hook and eye. Also if you can't find the right color of zipper use one that is close and paint the pull the right color with nail polish.

I FOUND IT!!! I went back to google & entered Husqvarna Sewing Machine after seeing another post where the lady mentioned this brand. I'd not heard of it. What a neat web-site. I put it in My Favorites. Thanks, again, for the zipper-tips.
