Technical screwups on patternreview.com

Patternreview.com has tons of information about sewing and a very active message board. And when I signed up six months ago, it seemed like the ideal sewing website. Unfortunately, 99% of the time I can't even log on. The website claims I never activated my account which simply isn't true. I activated my account just after I signed up and have tried to reactivate it repeatedly. I've even sent several emails to Deepika Prakash who runs the site, but she has ignored all my messages. Has anyone here ever experienced this problem on patternreview? It's a terrible shame that a great sewing resource is plagued by basic technical incompetance and administrator indifference.

One way to solve the problem is to abandon that account and create another one.

Get a free web mail account (operamail.com is good) and start over.

    Nancy,

"It's a terrible shame that a great sewing resource is plagued by basic technical incompetance and administrator indifference" It's a shame that you experienced such problems on Patternreview.com. I have been a member for several years and have not had any problems like you describe. I think creating a new account might be a good idea. The site has a wealth of information and a wonderful online community, I'd hate for anyone to miss out on that. I know that Deepika was having some problems receiving emails a while ago so perhaps she never received yours. Please understand that it takes a great deal of time to managed a site like patternreview. I have never known Deepika to be incompetant or indifferent.

Lazygardens, I did create a new account last week, and it didn't solve the problem. And Cindy, Deepika did receive at least one of my emails. I had politely written to her about the problem I had experienced and her complete reply was "Try it again." Well I tried it over a dozen times and nothing worked. When I sent another polite email, it drew absolutely no response. If patternreview were a mediocre website, I wouldn't care. But there's a wealth of information on it, and it's very frustrating not to be able to log onto it.

Nancy, I can certainly understand your why you are upset. You are right, patternreview is not a mediocre website. There must be some "glich" keeping you from accessing the site. Hundreds of people access the site on a daily basis. Technology idiot that I am, I have no idea what the problem might be. I wish that I could be of some help here. Please keep trying. It is a wonderful resource for sewing information.

Oh hey - I had a similar prob w/ Organic Gardening magazine's boards - however, when I wrote them, I DID get a reply & my account was 'fixed'.

Funny thing was, there was no 'contact' link on the board pages - I had to write the mag.....

That said, have you checked your browser preferences yet? If you have 'cookies' disabled, that may be the reason.

Or might it be a security issue - firewalls & such(?)

Is the computer @ home or work?

    FWIW, HTH

(& now I'm off to check that site out)

I had a problem being able to access any gardenweb or home site forum areas using internet explorer. A friend suggested using mozilla firefox. After downloading that I can get on and I also don't get the nasty pop ups. Google Mozilla+firefox and download that it is an internet browser like IE but is a lot better and not as glitchy+ it is free:)
