Additional insulation

All-

I'm living in a split level home in NJ. Over the higher part of the split (where the bedrooms are), I added attic stairs during this past year and ripped out the original (50 y/r) insulation and replaced it with R-19 (I know I need to add another unfaced R-19 to get it to an appropriate level).

Question is that on my lower 1/2 of the split, I still have the original insulation (encapsulated cotton) which has compressed a bit. Access to this attic is extremely tight and full removal of the insulation would be a real pain in the rear. As long as I can get the batts up there, is there any reason not to just add at least R-19 unfaced rolls over the original insulation? If I ever get around to building a better access panel, I can always tear out the original and get kraft faced to put down underneath the unfaced.

Thanks in advance...
