Anyone know about nylon thread for sewing garments?

I was making something and needed thread so I looked in my stash and came up with some old vintage nylon thread. It sewed so beautifully on my sewing machine. I have been having trouble with cotton covered polyester as it 'shreds' in the machine. then i googled it and it said that nylon thread breaks and melts. Seems funny that nylon used to be a good thread but now not. Any wisdom out there??

I too have some nylon thread in my thread stash. I am still using it and have not had any problems....therefore, I for one will use it up. I too have heard the stories about melting etc. I haven't had any problems like I said so until it happens I'll sew away. JMHO
