blouse pattern with princess seams

Can anyone recommend a GOOD pattern for a simple blouse with princess seams? I am currently making one by mccalls (4922)but it's awful. It has good reviews on the pattern review site but I found that the neck edge is so high its like wearing a mock turtle, and that is BEFORE I added the collar stand and collar. The collar ended up touching the base of my skull. I looked up how to deal with this issue and I did the pattern adjustments but that left me with huge neckline and then the collar tips were half way down my chest. I just want a simple blouse, size 18 ~ 20 with princess seams. Any recommendations?

    Carol,
I haven't tried this pattern, but I've been eye-balling it. It looks like a good one...actually made for larger sizes, which might help with the proportion problems. The link below is to eBay, where the price is fairly low. It is also available at the McCall's Pattern website and probably at fabric stores as it is a current pattern. HTH

Thanks for the info Noinwi but I have already tried that pattern too. The curves in the princess seams are exactly where I need them but this pattern is simply too big. The neckline is very big on me and the armholes showed the entire side of my bra. (I of course made the sleeveless)I may have to take a pattern that almost fits me and put princess seams in it, wish it didn't have to come to that but....

Carol, are you a short person? The problem you're describing sounds like a regular length pattern on a petite length person. I'm short, and if I try to make a fitted blouse w/o making the pattern petite, the fitted part falls where it should but pushes all the stuff above it up higher. That would make the collar hit you too high, etc.

As far as the sleeveless blouse, I've made several from these kind of patterns and instead of having a different-shaped armhole they just have you put a facing or band on the regular sleeve armhole, and it never looks right. I think these days they sometimes try to squeeze too many choices into one pattern.

Donna I think you are right about too many choices in one pattern. And no I am not a short person, I am 5'7" about 170 pounds, which is why I was so surprised about the neckline on this McCall's pattern. I just don't have these problems with ready to wear! Sometimes I don't know why I sew, it's very expensive and nothing fits nearly as well as RTW and there is no one I can do a "show and tell" in person with to get fitting help. Everyone teaches sewing...no one teaches fitting, that's always left to books which just are not the same as a real experience. That's my 2 cents!

Carol, you're right! I've also found recently that ready-made clothes in size 12 or 14 fit great, but with a pattern in a similar style I have to use size 16 or 18! What's up with that? I have not made clothes much in the last couple of years b/c I can't get them to fit right.
