I suggest a pillowcase dress. There are patterns you can find with sleeves if it is cold. I made some for my little one and LOVE them. I have not yet recieved my embroidery machine. It should be here hopefully thursday.

A really easy dress to make for a young girl is a t-shirt dress. You just take a t-shirt, cut it off, and then add a gathered skirt. You can get fancier by adding a tiered skirt, ruffles, etc. You can also do some emboridery on the shirt if you'd like. Here is one I did for Halloween for my daughter. I can post some more examples in the gallery if you like the look (and am happy to give more detailed directions if you need.)

That has got to be the cutest dress I have ever seen. I think I will try to make one for the baby for Christmas. I got a really good deal on some long sleeve t-shirts. They button at the bottom but I could cut that off. It is a good reason to try out my new machine. (like I need a reason)

Wally World has the brand kid connection plain cotton shirts for $2.88 in various colors. Old Navy is always a good place to get high quality t-shirts too but they are pretty picked over on selection right now (at least on line they are). The key is to shop early in the season and stock up on blanks b/c they sell out amazingly fast!

Can't wait to see your creation. I have a xmas one in the works too.

Someone just sent me a message asking about adding ruffles to the jeans but I don't have an email to respond to so hopefully you will see it here!

For the jeans what you need to do is cut off the existing cuff of the pant. I usually cut the top ruffle 2 1/2" wide and the bottom 3 1/2" wide. A little of that comes off when I narrow hem roll on the serger to finish the ruffle edge. So normally if I want the jeans to be the manufacturers length I would cut off 3" of jeans, BUT sometimes I want to shorten more depending on the fit obviously you can take off more/less and adjust the length of the finished garment.

I take a seamripper and rip up the inseam so I can get in and work on the jeans. This makes it easy to do the button holes if you want to weave ribbon, or to add an applique. Some people just close the ruffles w/ a french seam and just sew them on the bottom not opening up that inseam.

Then I sew on the ruffle, serge it. Then sew up the inseam and serge. I enclose both ruffles into the seams. Some people will leave top ruffle out, again it's personal preference.

Occassionally I have a pair of jeans where I have to rip out the outseam b/c they have topstitching on the inseam. Like Arizona brand and JC penny is like that. In that case I will do my embellishement, sew up the outseam, then put on the ruffle enclosing it in a circle first w/ french seams. I don't usually buy Arizona for that reason!
