DH bought me this machine today for $30, in a garage sale. It looks pretty clean, and has the instruction book etc.. I haven't tried using it yet, but will this evening. Any tips???? If it works well, was it worth $30??
Anytime you can get a Bernina for 30.00 that's a steal.Especially if it's in good running condition ,and he even got the book,Amazing.Wish it were me!! Berninas are the Rolls Royce's of sewing machines.IMHO.Congratulations!! Kathi
I just googled this machine and someone has one to sell for-------------------------------------600.00!!!! Lucky you, better keep that dh,he's a good bargain shopper.LOL Kathi
I think I will keep him!!! I forgot to mention that there is a huge box of accessories with the machine!!! I'm having a ball finding out which thingy will do what!! :^)
i have a 1020 and an trying to do some applique. my problem is the lower tension - it is too tight and i can't figure out how to loosen it. the guide book does not give any explanation and only addresses the subject under maintenance.
I haven't played with this enough to know, but in GENERAL, with lots of other machines, I have found that if the bottom tension is too tight there is usually thread lint trapped in the little adjustable flap on the bobbin case.
If you have cleaned all the lint from the machine and made sure it is threaded correctly you can adjust the lower tension by turning the small screw located on the bobbin case. Although I do not adjust my bobbin tension it can be done. I would probably take it to the dealer and have them service the machine.
I got a Bernina 1020 at the thrift store for $11. I could hardly whole in my excitment. No attachment and needs a bobbin holder. Used a bobbin holder from my 1130 to test out the machine. Sews like a dream. Bobbin holder on order.
