Your first time. You did an awesome job laying those tiles down. Spaced just right. To me the tiles look light brown, i would use brown grout for sure or terra cout one. But you did a great job.

Nice job! I would use a darker brown grout. Would make the tiles stand out - also easier to keep clean than light grout.

Hey! Really good job on your table. I like your design.
The dark brown grout is a good choice. Remember to seal your grout with a sealer to. This will keep any spills from staining your grout. You should see this next to your grout at the store. Read the directions. Your grout will need a while to dry before you apply it.

Wow, you guys are all so nice! I appreciate your comments and I'm glad you all like it. I thought the design was fun and different, plus it's hard to make a design using all squares! I must have tried 20 times to come up with something!

The reason it is so straight and even is because I used the grid, and ended up with 4 sections (for each side). Then, I centered the 4 sections onto the grid, and contact-papered the whole thing together. Then I glued each side down in one huge piece. I was nervous that it wouldn't stay together, but it did!

Good job! Very cute design! We recommend sanded grout around here, it is nicer to work with, and I like the idea of cream/beige grout or brown also. We also have been known to paint wash our grout later if we don't like it. Keep posting!!!

Well, we grouted the table tonight. It was weird, I thought the brown grout would make the tiles look brighter, but it made them look darker. There seems to be a dark edge around each tile (grout showing from underneath???) that wasn't there before. But we still like it a lot.

I was really nervous, but did a lot of reading on this site about grouting. It went smoother than I thought it would, with no major problems. I was relieved!

I will post pics after it dries and we remove the tape from the wood parts. It looks much better now that both sides are done!

One thing I've noticed is that the grout (nutmeg was the color) dried much lighter, almost a light, pinkish brown. I wanted darker brown, so I will try to go over it with acrylic paint.

I read here that the paint has to be watered down--does anyone know how watered down the paint has to be? Half and half maybe?

I just went by the intensity I wanted, and if it still wasn't what I looked for, I painted it again. I still have to paint my kitchen cabinet drawers cuz I got them too dark. Maybe if I get them right, it'll be the inspiration I need right now to start something else - like the rest of the drawers. You could always mix up a little grout, let it dry and experiment. That's what some have done.

I love how it turned out. Yeah, I've painted things a few times if I didn't like the color of the grout. Turned out fine.

I'm glad you still like it even though it didn't turn out like you thought it would. I think it's just great! I'm anxious to see the final pics with both sides done and the wood exposed.

Ok. We finished painting the grout, and I love the brown color! We still have to touch up the grout that is in the middle, lost some removing the tape. My camera makes the tiles look darker than they are, the colors are much nicer in person (Close up pic is closest to actual color)

Thanks so much! I'm not sure what to try next. I have wanted to make a panel light with translucent glass for a long time now, ever since I saw something similar at Ikea. Hubby would have to figure out how to attach the electronics, though. I also saw this neat design on h.g.t.v. the other day, (can you tell I'm decorating my living room?? almost done, too). The mosaiced part fits right around the shelf and is multi-dimensional:
