Kitchen Backsplash Advice

Our condo is open concept with a small kitchen located in the back of the great room parallel to the fireplace (floor to ceiling stacked stone painted bight white)(Photo of kitchen (ignore the furniture/cabinet hardware- http://www.flickr.com/photos/31475379@N06/4616223187/ )

My husband and I won't be in this place for more than 3-5 years so we're trying to keep our personal tastes out of the updates. Our biggest issue is a tile back splash for the kitchen because it sets the tone for the rest of the space and would be difficult for a buyer to change. The countertop in the space is granite with blacks, whites, and grays.

We plan on tiling the wall space behind the counter/stove as well as the left wall near the refrigerator. Our tile choices are these:

Option A: Gray glass tile (mimics the stone in the fireplace):

Option B Mix of gray and white bricks: http://www.glasstilestore.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=LOFTMANHATTANBLEND1%2F2X2SAMPLE&CartID=1

Option C White/clear tile:

Option D: Simple white brick tile:

What does every one think will be the most appealing to future buyers?

you my not be getting replies because the link to your photo is incorrect when you include the ) at the end

I like options A or B because the gray brings some color into the kitchen, but if you're planning to sell soon maybe the clear glass tiles would be better for resale.

yes, you need to make the photos more accessible. I would provide a link to my kitchen and then ask for advice about backsplash. There really doesn't seem to be much variation in your choices. Doing the whole wall by the frig might be a challenge. Who knows what will be out of date in 5 years. I would be tempted to do nothing. I personally don't like small tiles so I would prefer blank walls.

I think this is the place.

Personally, I crave some color. This is a monotone composition.

Here is a link that might be useful: Here is the kitchen. Click arrow for the fireplace.

I would use these if the color matches the cabinets. The small scale is good, almost mosaic-y but not square so they will help make the kitchen look wider. They are simple and very modern. I would keep it white back there and not introduce a color as that would call attention to a space that's too chopped up IMO to be a focal point. Very safe bet for resale.

Given your time frame and the expense of tile I don't think you should tile at all. Tile is a very personal choice and very expensive and no matter what you do you probably won't recoup the cost of tiling. Some on this forum have used a specialized paint in lieu of the backsplash and have been very pleased. I can't remember the brand or the technical details of the paint but Trailrunner sticks in my mind as someone who did this. Her kitchen is quite beautiful and she had no intention of ever tiling, if I remember correctly. My advice is to save yourself some money and just use paint. The eventual buyer will tile to their own taste if that is what they want but your tile choice won't enhance the resale value.

I agree with flseadog if this is an investment property to just paint the backsplash or the kitchen itself, however if you plan to live there for a few years and glass tile is what you like then I would suggest going with the white glass tile. I think its simple and will match with any color if someone later down the road buys and wants to change their color scheme. I debated on the glass tile for months, I found a tile with a hint of red to go with the specks of granite on our countertops. Everyone was trying to steer me away from it because of resale. we don't plan on moving for many years to come so I got what I wanted and I'm going to enjoy it while I'm here.

    Go for it!
