Oh, forgot to ask....what would you do about the handle? Do you mosaic that too? My mom thought I could wrap it in something, like a leather strip or something like that.

Guessing here... seal it first them mosaic it. Weldbond should be fine. Works great for me!
To mosaic or not to mosaic (the handle), that is the question! That's your call! ;-) Like the wrapped leather idea, but mosaicing the handle would look good too!

Oh, what a neat shape, GC. That'll be a real beauty when mosaiced. It brings to mind a bottle/jug that NT mosaiced and morphed right after she came down w/this desease. NT - post a picture of it. I hate Weldbond on something vertical, but if you pour some out and let it thicken it is a bit easier. I found Aleen's is easier to work with - drys faster. 'course, it depends on if this piece is for inside or out. If out, then I'd use thinset. Probably would anyway, cuz it sticks quickly, and works great w/ceramic.

yeah i wouldn't like the weldbond for this either, go for something tackier.

What a wonderful shape! Def would use Aileen's or something that tacky on it in lieu of the Weldbond. Leather OR corresponding cording would be wonderful on the handles.

Thinset is so easy because it stays immediately and doesn't slide off.NT I never saw that it's beautiful.

I like that vase, it will look way to cool mosaiced Looking at NT's amphora, maybe you could wrap beads or chain around the handle. If you are a newbie like me, I think that handle might be really difficult to mosaic, unless you can cut really small tile.

NT, I LOVE how you morphed a bowling ball into that wonderful bottle. It looks like something that would be unearthed on an archeological dig in Egypt!! That is amazingly clever!! You are a real pro.

Mermaid--the guy said that he had his pickup truck full of misc. ceramic tiles and he was just going to throw them out. He said $50, I said, no, I'm not looking to spend more than $10, he said OK. Unfortunately, he is about 45 miles away, so I haven't made the trip out there yet (gas + full size van = expensive!!!)

Thanks to all for helping with the adhesive question. I was also thinking that I am too inexperienced to do the handle correctly, but I'll figure out something.

Although I have done a coffee table, I haven't done much of anything else yet besides collect tile, tools and things to work on. I have a small house and no room to 'set up shop', where I would feel comfortable working and not having to worry about missing a shard that my 10 year old could step on. I'll probably set up outside for the summer, and hope to get started on some projects soon.
