It depends on what you like. Some would say this granite is like a work of art with all the variation. I have giallo ornametal. My slab has movement but it is very uniform. If you do not LOVE this slab, look further! Do not be talked into it!!!!!

I've expressed my concerns about the inconsistency in this particular slab to the kitchen lady and to the granite rep and let's see what they can come up with. She said that the granite supplier had a lot less in stock than then normally do, so that could be part of the problem. I just believe that if they take 1/2 off the top and 1/2 off of the bottom that it will look like two totally differenct pieces of granite...and it's one L-shaped run with two small side cabs.

That color is considered exotic. Mother nature made it to not be consistent. That is the way it is intended to look. If you have good people working for you they will have you talk to the fabricator who will be cutting and installing the slabs. You should be pointing out what you do not like and if it can be cut out. If you do not have people telling you to do this run from all of them! Including your cabinet supplier. It is standard practise for real professionals to introduce you to the fabricator and work out your conserns before they cut it. If they do not do that I would suspect there is a little boys club of the cabinet store, granite slab wholesaler, and fabricator that is more concerned about your money then your satisfaction and you probably will never be happy with the grain of the slab when it is cut into pieces and installed in your kitchen.

I'd love that slab. I guess it's not for everyone tho!

daveinorlando~thank you for your insight on this. I am attaching one more tight photo of the granite from the right corner...and I do absolutely love and appreciate what makes up this section. How much waste can you expect from when they cut out the undesireable spots? He set aside two and a half slabs for the project. Here's the closer up section of one part that I love. If you think it's possible to do a seamless looking layout with this piece I'll ask about if they will set up a meeting with the fabricator prior to installation to discuss.

desertsteph, I love it, too, but I'm concerned when they make the turns or the seams on the turns that it won't look so great on the match up. I have a 73", an 87" and a 102" run...with two small side pieces at 22" ea. desertsteph, what is your preferred granite? Just being curious.

I'm having my Sienna Bordeaux installed this coming tuesday. SB varies WIDELY from granite yard to granite yard and from slab to slab. I searched four different yards before I came across my slab. When I saw it, it jumped out at me and said BUY ME. Don't buy the slab until you find the right one. You will know, when you see it.

rayrose~Do you have any photos of your slabs? Will you send me photos of your Sienna Bordeaux once installed? I'd love, love to see it. My kitchen designer responded to my concerns, saying that "maybe, he can find some individual slabs that appeal to you". That sounds better, but I believe he already has the slabs on the lot, so I'm not sure. I'm going to hold out and be particular....I've seen the Sienna Bordeaux in photos with a little more consistency and movement and I'd like that so much more. Your comment was very helpful! What color are your cabinents? Floor?

I'm having SB installed in a 7 ft. long mb vanity, on cherry cabinets with a cranberry finish. Haven't decided on the floor yet or the shower. Most of the slabs that I saw had yellow or gold streaks in it, which I did not want.
Mine has a lot of pinkish/blue/grey streaks on a whitish
background, and it really pops on the cabs. Sorry, but I deleted the pics of the slab, but will be posting pics of
the finished bath on the bathroom forum. I'm in SC and searched granite yards from Florida to NC through my fabricator. Finally found what I was looking for in Raleigh, NC. My advice is to be patient and don't settle
for second best because you just want to get the job over with.

I love my sienna bordeaux!! I'm with the posters above. Don't settle if your not happy!! When you find the right slab you will know it. Its like finding your wedding dress, you look and try on so many that when you find the right one you don't want to look no more. I searched for a long time at different granite yards for my sb but when I saw my two slabs that was it. I'm with rayrose I didn't like the "rust streaks" either. My slabs have so so little rust color that you really can't see it. It just blends in.

Wish I knew how to post pictures, but there on my facebook! I know that doesn't help.

Thanks everyone for all of your input. I am holding tight until I see the right pieces of granite and wanted to let you know. I did receive this email from the granite guy. "I can only fend off other clients for so long.While I understand your concern about the movement, I'm not at all fearful of using this material in your home." I can't stand these tactics. I called the KD asked if there was any other granite yard I could go to and she said she wouldn't want me to get involved with an unreputable yard as lately many are going out of business and I would lose my deposit and my granite if they go bankrupt, and that this place is excellent with fabricating whereas she knows some that aren't. I can wait forever....rayrose, I am in SC, too. I do have two friends who have sucessfully used this place so I can just hold out....forever, if need be, for that perfect hunk of gorgeous movement...and nice color distribution.....holding firm...thanks to you guys.

Thought you might like to see my Sienna Bordeaux. I used it on my island and labrador black on my perimeter. I love it. I used almost one complete slab for the island. Not sure it would have been so effective as smaller pieces.

Terilee, That's very true about yards and fabricators going out of business. I would not put down a deposit,
ubtil I found the right slab and felt secure about my
fabricator. I don't know where you are or who you are using, but I can highly recommend my fabricator in Columbia, Michelle Gaillard of Marble & Granite Specialties. She can help you find the right slab, and will
go out of her way to please you.

It doesn't look to me as though there is an issue with the "quality" of the slab. It sounds as if it is an issue with the esthetics. ie- The slab doesn't have large cracks or fractures, it's just that you don't like certain part of it.

You really need to review your layout with the granite people and decide if you have enough granite to avoid using the areas you don't like. My experience is that most all the granite was used up and I couldn't avoid having some areas I wasn't that fond of. This was a medium sized kitchen and 2 slabs of granite.

My feeling is that you need to LOVE your granite. If you don't LOVE it enough to overlook a few less desireable areas, it is not the granite for you and you will never be happy with it.

Keep searching until you find something you love. I would first make a choice on the cabinet color, however. It is going to be difficult to find something that goes with all three doors you have in the photo. And I don't think the red goes with that granite at all.

The granite guy finally produced some pieces I liked...and I worked with them in photoshop...cutting three pieces from the slabs to make my countertops and you'll see the final result. Of course, I'm certain the fabricator will do a better job than I but I wanted to see the flow. They're going to look great with the black and taupe in my new kitchen and the red accent, too. Remember that I like the carmel color in them alot... They will blend seamlessly with my den which I am opening up into, but why oh why do some guys have to be jerks? That's the part that I don't get and I can guarentee you that when I'm finished I will say something to the granite sales guy...but not until the granite is properly installed. I've taken photos of the pieces so they can't switch pieces on me...and I will go on Monday and make my deposit. I wonder how much will that be? 1/2? Thanks you guys...more to come...I am certain..and so far you guys are worth a million bucks to me! Next, I need a backsplash and hardware.
