I have been visiting this site for a few months. I wish I had discovered it before I made all my kitchen choices. My first house will be done in a few weeks, and my first DIY project will be to put my kitchen backsplash in. I feel good about the installation part, but I am floundering as to what I should use for the actual tile.

I am in a patio home, so I dont get a whole lot of natural light. With my cabinets being dark, I really need to stick lighter colors. The current floor is awful, it's a vinyl. Next year, it will be replaced with Brazilian Tigerwood which will be a similar color but a bit lighter.

The only idea I have currently is a white carrera marble.

Any idea's people can throw out would be helpful. I would like to keep with the transitional feel, I have going on now. Some pictures of my kitchen on the link, I didn't know how to add to page.
