Truly beautiful, Nicethyme. When you say shards do you mean broken china? How big is this panel? Are there more than one panel, given the colour variations? What is your substrate? Lots of questions because I do find your piece inspiring.

Maddy, the piece is 21" long and 10" tall. The substrate is clear glass and where I have glass tesserae - the light shows through when in a window and back lit. I'm really enjoying how different it looks with different lighting. In the last pic, the dark areas are where all the nipped plate shards and molded cement faces are, so those block the light from behind.

Mermaid, you got it! I see drum beats and imagine the smoke and crackle of the fire... that's the frenzied movement that started the piece (well that and the flowing purple vine) everything else came after that - I was stumped and Chickeemama suggested it turn to day, which made sense for me because I envision that the vine is growing and it would grow toward light. Then it seemed like the noise and excitement of the night faded into the smoother calm of morning where only a breeze moved...

Inspiration, like I said - Slow's work always makes me hear a hispanic beat... like people celebrating in the street. So that's where I started. Then we played 20 questions in the contest forum with everyone giving examples of their own idea of movement in art. Starry Night was mentioned so I thought a swirlly sky was good for movement and then I hit on Aboriginal art as appearing musical so that was serious influence too

The bottom picture is with light behind it right? It looks like the clay is transparent, is it?

Oh I see what ya mean, but I think it's just a slight reflective quality of the white moon face and the white plate "butts" around it.

I see your glow worm mirror is in the texture - good choice!

Well, I've just gone from LOL w/BAMA's King Crete to absolutely speechless and breathlessly in awe. NT if I come for a visit, w/you teach me to mosaic??? I have no words to describe my admiration of this piece, and of course I'm totally humbled that you even mention my name w/such a piece as this. I think I'll kneel here and say a little prayer in humility. Your artistic ability - well ..... can't even talk/type - tearing up here.

I'll let you in on something - I didn't even like this piece - all the way along I kept thinking "what can I do with it??" LOL But yesterday that "thinking outside the box" and take a chance - led me to the red grout and what a transformation! and yes it completly embodies your lively spirit for me

I am rather amazed at this piece, this contest really stretched me. I gave thought to concepts and pushed myself to go beyond my impulses... for me, the amazing part is that all resulted in something I really like! (so surprizing) lol I still can't believe that red grout , as crazy as it sounded was so - the magical answer! I'm stunned at that one! lol

LOL Slow, this is Veronica and when I made her (and her co workers) CrackedinColorado asked if there was going to be a series... So I filled the molds with my left over grout,, I'm waiting to hear a narration while I play with them! LOL

Oh, of COURSE - Veronica! Thanks for re-posting. I keep going back to the GOG - it's so beautiful. What did you use to color the grout red? I can't believe you didn't like this piece at first. At what point did you start to love it? It is truly a magnificient piece. I'm in such awe of your natural talent. I can just imagine how you go through the process and as it comes to you. That's the way I felt when I made the shrine for my DD. W/ever piece, I'd say "YES", and "Yesed" out loud my way all through the process. Isn't it wonderful to work out your inspirations on pieces such as this?
