I agree , tthe shingles would look better the color of the brick and let the door and columns pop with the wood stain Think the door should be somewhat lighter than the door possibly

Would it look patchwork even using a stain similar to the post stain? Or what about a gray stain on the shake?

I would stain cedar shake a wood stain similar to door and posts personally...perhaps a stain with a grey hue. I would NOT stain the same color as brick...it will look like every other painted brick house and it will completely loose the purpose of the cedar which is to add texture and create a unique look.
