That's a very neat vase, very colorful. What grout color will you use? I've not done a gourd so I no help, sorry. But it's pretty!

I'm assuming you used a dried gord?? I haven't used one before either but assume as long as it is going to be used indoors you wood think it would be fine.

Lots of colors, so whatever grout color you choose should work out great!!!!

Hey ANNIE, I'd find it very hard to believe gourds wouldn't grow in south TX! We have a gourd art book that shows gourds from ALL OVER, including places in Mexico and South America. I LOVE gourds, especially the hard ones, that is they get hard when they dry out and you can do all kinds of neat stuff with them. I'd never mosaiced one though, so this is new for me.

I did grout it tonight, in a pale green. I used some craft paint to tint bright white grout. I think I'm going to like it. Still have to sponge it off, waiting for it to dry a bit. I made my grout MUCH drier than usual though after a recent thread here, hope I didn't make it TOO dry... New pic tomorrow probably.

Interesting thread, I'm growing birdhouse gourds this year! I'll keep this in mind. I think it's very pretty, I bet the green grout sets it off nicely.

CINDEE: Yes, I have mosaiced a gourd for a birdhouse. I gave it to my sister. We did hang it under a porch overhang so it would be out of the weather. It looked fine when I was there the other day. I may suggest she take it down for the winter.

Thanks, guys. No, CHRIS, I didn't epoxy the inside. I did consider it, but just figure I won't put water in it, use it for dried flowers if anything. It could be done though. I'd want to mix up enough that it could be rolled around inside it good to thoroughly coat it, paint it inside the neck, then dump it out. I'd then stand it upside down in a disposable jar or something to let the extra run out...you know, no I wouldn't. I'd let it cure right side up, cause then the extra would settle in the bottom, you could be Sure the bottom was completely covered, and it would add a little weight. Even covered with glass and grout, the vase is not very heavy.

OK, WAY more than you asked for. Just thinking out loud.

Roni that is adorable!!!! I like the idea of letting the epoxy cure right side up to give it weight. I would assume (and we know what happens when one assumes!!) then that you could use water in it?????

I love the green grout with those colors it just makes it so crisp and clean looking!!

I have not ben successful in growing gourds here. Neighbors do though I might try and talk her out of one to try.
