Does anyone here suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? I spend most of my days on the computer and evenings nipping china and cutting glass. My poor hands!! I haven't officially been diagnosed but WOW does it hurt sometimes, especially my dominant right hand! Any advice from you all??

OUTRUN IT! That's my motto for aching all over.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV!

A brace for your wrists is a good first start. Generally carpal tunnel is made worse by poor mechanics in the activity you are doing (that's not a slam on you personally, just a fact of the syndrome). I have it too, and it comes and goes as activity increases.

The braces are especially important on the computer. They take some getting used to, but once you are used to them you will not feel the loss of dexterity. I've included a link below, but I know you can get them cheaper at your local Walgreens or whatever drug store is near.

If you wake up in the morning and your hands are numb (especially your thumb, index and middle fingers), get thee to a doctor!! The numbness can signal real impending damage (the carpal nerve runs down the center of your middle finger and thus why it affects the first three digits on your hand).

I have tennis elbow ( Lateral Epicondylitis) from mosaics and that too, is caused by poor mechanics with repetitious motion. It and carpal tunnel can be devastating as we age, so don't ignore it.

I agree the wrist brace really helps me. What else I do is after using my hands a lot, or sometimes even in the middle of heavy use I do a hot and cold water plunge. You fill up two containers(or sinks) , one with cold water and one with hot, then plunge your hands in for a minute in the hot, then the cold and repeat several times. It doesn't feel wonderful to do it but really feels better after. I think it really gets the circulation going. I really can't do a lot of repetetive stuff like I used to. I had considered changing carees and part of my hesitation was I knew the new one would involve more computer work, wasn't sure my hands would like it,

I take ibuprofen to help this as it is a antiinflamitory. I've been weeding a lot and so in the morning I take one and after a good 4 or 5 hrs of weedin' I do....

I HAD carpel tunnel. I had to have surgery to fix it. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night with my hand hurting so bad, it felt like someone took a baseball bat to it!! The surgery was a godsend. I haven't had any trouble since. It was on outpatient procedure.
