I'd love to see a photo of it on plain grass, tho . . . hard to see with the patterned rug beneath the stone.

Had to come back to this. Being a quilter. I just thought of all the wonderful patterns I have in my quilting books!! I think I am going to have to try just a couple of these stones.I have never tried to do a pattern from a book. But the inspiration sure would be there. Not too many because I do not want to haul them in every winter.

Would you tell me in a nutshell how you do a stepping stone, in particular the design on top? Do you put it in your mold face down then pour over it? How do you keep it from shifting around? Contact paper? I want to do some, never have, and that is how I have thought I would do them. Thanks, and I REALLY do like this!

I only use pre-made stones which you can get at Lowes, etc. This stone is a 18" round. I draw out my pattern on the stone with a sharpie then I glue glass, tile, whatever with GEII (clear silicone for windows and doors).When that is dry, I grout with a sanded grout.
I've never done a stepping stone from a mold.
Don't be intimidated by it. Just dig in and go for it!!

Thanks, Susanna. After I posted my question, I thought, oh, wait, she probably uses a premade stone. Guess that would definitely be simpler to start with! GEII is all I've used, don't know anything else! I will be making stepping stones before too long, I just know it! Thanks again.

LYNDALU said it - loss for words. That's the perfection I could never achieve in a mosaic. I'm a quilter also - rather WAS before I became obsessed w/mosaics - and this is what I strive for in stitching - perfect color combinations, great design and perfectly matched seams. Take a bow.

I've never been a quilter, but I do love that look. I draw directly onto the stone. I don't do a pattern. I'll start in the center and work my way out. I just let it evolve till I'm happy.Then I start my glass cutting. I generally choose colors as I go. So far I haven't done the same design twice.
I worked on this stone over a 2 week period. My work area is in part of our attic (no air conditioning YET) so some days it was just too dang hot to be up there.

Bama - the design is WONDERFUL!! You are so blessed to be able to just sit down and draw something like that! I love geometric designs ala Frank Lloyd Wright, art deco, etc....keep trying to achieve that sort of symmetry, but I'm still a WIP, I guess!

Can't wait to see it in it's final resting place!!
