Windows 101???

Hi, I am new to this site and windows as well. We have an all brick house that was built in 1952. We have 16 original windows that really really need to be replaced. They are steel casement windows that will need to be cut out of the brick. I have several questions. Last night we had a very high pressure sales presentation at our house. They offered us the "model home" price which was $17,000 installed. This was American Weather Seal windows, 2 basement, 2 casement, 2 large windows that would have a quarter slider, half stationary, quarter slider configuration (these are about 7 foot wide by 4 foot tall). Their final offer was about $14000 with $1800 cash back so somewhere in the $12,200 range. They wouldn't leave us the estimate.

Did we pass up a good deal?

How much does it cost to cut out windows from brick?

My other question is how much of the original window is left when they cut out the window? Do they take the entire sill and everything? Our sills are about 5 inches deep.

If they leave the sill what do we do with the rusted out sill in the shower window?

Can someone help me. I have searched and don't understand exactly what happens.

Also, can anyone suggest installers/contractors in the Metro DC area?

Thanks for the help! KZ
