Cool..I have wondered if mosaic would stay on one of these big ones ..I was afraid the heat from the fire would pop the tiles or glass off..what does anyone think?

i was planning on using it as aplanter since it is already cracked i dont want to risk to much heat and the florida weather doesnt exactly warrant having an outdoor fire LOL

You lucky duck. If it were mine, I'd mend the crack w/mortar, mosaic that puppy and do as CALAM suggest, put a plant arrangement inside - depending on the opening, Petunias, a spikey and a hangy-down plant. W/be a wonderful garden piece. I've wanted to mosaic one, but never seem to have time to get to one of those.

im already planning in my head what should go where i like that combo too slow i have quite a few potted plants arround the yard that could use new homes i was also thinking of somehow makinga bottom in the top part so i could have a hangy-down plant in the top cascading down the sides just havent figured out how yet but also do you guys know of a really glossy paint i can use to paint the grapes and vines and leaves i want to leve them and work with them actually incorporate them into the theme so i thought either acryllic with a poly over it or like even automotive paint might work well to give them the look of shiny terrase i am sure i spelled that wrong i always do but i wanted it to look like i put it there not like it just happened to be there so i worked arround it ya know

Maybe you could find a pot that would just slide into the top..or make your own insert with chicken wire, coco-liner.

That's a great idea SHELLY, to put a plant in the top too, and a perfect solution, BAMA on the wire/liner. As I was reading your plans, S:, I was thinking of the same thing as Bama suggested. There's always a way to fix something and make it work for what you want. On the paint, some people use the patio paints. When I painted my "Bead Pole" I used regular acrylic paints. They're holding the color pretty well, but in time they w/fade. Good idea on the automotive paints. Also like your idea of using the existing design as tesserae.
