Boy, that's a hard one!!! I think it would take you being veeeery patient to find some really flat plates or realy small pcs! They have those tiles that look like china but I hear it looks better on line than it does in person.... I have only done a little round side table(1ft across)but have been wanting to do a black glass with a red hyroglific dragon on it for my DD. Some day maybe...

Good question....one that pops up here every once in a while. I've worked almost exclusively with china - what I do is try to "build up" the thinner pieces so that they are level with the thicker pieces. I don't know what kind of adhesive you use....I always use the cement based adhesive (MAPEI - Ultraflex 2 - Professional Grade Polymer Modified Mortar)....and the consistency of it allows you to do that. The mix shouldn't be too wet - peanut butter consistecy works well. I butter the back of each piece, and then place it. With a little practice and patience, you can get it pretty level. A level can be helpful, too.

There might be another adhesive that works for "building up" also, but I'll let someone else chime in...as this is the only adhesive that I've used so far.
