Pains!

Wondering what height your worktables are?I've been using a regular table and by the time I bend over to cut stuff my back and neck are killing me....I put my headboards on the floor and have been crawling around to do them but thats easier on me than the table...I'm trying to figure out how to raise my table and still have it look o.k.Thanks aching annie

I can't tell you the exact height of my table because it's upstairs and I am propped up in bed with a pulled ligament in my foot. I'll be out of commision for about a week. It's killin me cuz I can't work on my stuff!!

Anyways..My table is high enough so I can sit on a bar stool to be at the perfect height to work on it. Maybe you could raise your table by putting the smaller concrete blocks under the legs?

BAMA! Sorry about your foot. Get that DH of yours to set you up with some glass and glue and one of those bedside tables! I'd look at this as PRIME mosaic time, girl!

Anie - I also mosaic sitting on a barstool...looks like my workbench is pretty close to 38", but I cut on an old dinette table that is 30". SOmetimes a bit hard on the neck at that height, but I can't get a good score on a taller surface.

BTW, bama, prop that little footie up, and follow "Dr" ladyronnie's instructions! LOL....Hope you're up and moving around real soon!

Ouch ..sorry Bama..thanks girls I just found a 60 x 50 table at big lots it is counter height 37 " and if I put those round bun feet on it it would be even taller .I hate to get rid of the one i bought for my room but the one at big lots was from pier 1 and marked down from 350 to 139.00 so I'll just sell my old one to pay for it ,maybe I can get formica put on it someday altho I use plastic tablecloths anyway so I can just throw them away when I ruin them with glue and stuff .My old one is better quality but if it doesn't work for me really doesn't matter. If any one needs a big work table check out big lots .Thanks Annie

Annie, my work area is a traditional workbench with a layer of plywood on top to make it deeper - more space to clutter. I love it. I stand most of the time - I'm hoping I'll lose weight if I don't sit. : )

Bama, I would be cutting away. This winter when I brought my mosaics inside, I got one of those large baggies (about 2.5 gal), I could put both hands inside so I could nip my glass so it didn't fall in the carpet. If I lived near you, I'd cut your glass in strips for you. Well, if nothing else, maybe you can glaze over all the mosaic galleries online. Hope you feel better soon.

I made mine the same height as my kitchen counter, figured it was comfy for chopping and stuff so it should work for cutting glass. I have a small stool a little shorter than a bar stool for sitting. Works for me.

My stained glass work table is an old, small kitchen table that was a bit too low to work at comfortably, so I dug in the garage and found four old paint cans and set each leg of the table on a can. Voila! Perfect height for next to nothing, but it's not very pretty.

Hubby is a carpenter and he's figured out a way to raise the table to the same height in an "attractive" way ~ lol. He's going to built a wood block a bit higher than each paint can and then drill a hole in the block the same diameter as the table legs (so the table legs will then set down into the block). A prettier solution for sure!

i have been using the counter in my laundry room for cutting its just about perfect for it i dont have to bend at all but im standing up so my feet do tend to get tired after a while and when im working on a project i just sit at my little table on theporch or on the living room floor so i can watch tv too

annie - wow - you move fast! So you already have your taller work table - good! I bet that will work well for you. I have a big old desk that I use sometimes, but I find that my taller work bench is best for working for long periods of time. And like Debbi, I end up standing more often than not. I find that if I sit, I lean forward, and then that hurts my lower back.

Bama....ouch! Hope you feel better soon. I just know you'll figure out some way to work on mosaics during your recuperation! right?? :)

Thanks for the advice..I really wasn't out looking for a table but stumbled onto it a Big Lots what a deal huh?

I know you already have your table Annie and I hope it works and helps the pains.Working on the floor for me is impossible and does serious nerve pinching in my back.

I bought one of those fold up tables from Wally world in the camping department for our kitchen table when we HAVE to have one. Otherwise it was living behind the couch in the kitchen. I discovered it is a perfect table for working on my mosaics too. Since I set it up in the office I just turn my office desk chair to do mosaics and then around to work at my desk. The desk chair is adjustable up or down.

Works for me and now I am getting even more use out of the kitchen table that almost never got used before.
